Where to Sell Your iPad 2 For the Most Amount of Cash

By Tom Davenport on at

Dear suckers who didn't pay attention to Gizmodo and bought an iPad 2 without realising a new model was coming: we forgive you. Find out where to trade yours in to help afford the stunning new model right here.

Alright, let's be fair. Maybe you had the smarts to buy an older iPad knowing you can pull a tactical trade-in or sale, or jumped on the first iPad two years ago and feel like some fresh A5X magic. Let's pick apart the current trade-in options to see where you can pull the most pounds.

Carphone Warehouse

These are the best trade-in rates we've seen so far, but unlike other options which can offer cash, you'll have to commit to buying your new iPad at the same time.

iPad 1
16GB -- £135
32GB -- £160
64GB -- £175
16GB + 3G -- £155
32GB + 3G -- £175
64GB + 3G - £205

iPad 2
16GB -- £245
32GB -- £275
64GB -- £325
16GB + 3G -- £275
32GB + 3G -- £325
64GB + 3G --£355

Three

Bad luck if you own a 32GB iPad 2 -- Three has stamped the same price on it as the 16GB model, the monkeys.

iPad 1
16GB -- £130
32GB -- £150
64GB -- £160
16GB + 3G -- £150
32GB + 3G -- £160
64GB + 3G --£180

iPad 2
16GB -- £230
32GB -- £230
64GB -- £280
16GB + 3G -- £230
32GB + 3G -- £280
64GB + 3G -- £320

Mazuma Mobile

The rates aren't great, but if you shop at Argos (anyone?) then you can swap your iPad for vouchers worth a little extra:

iPad 1
16GB -- £120
32GB -- £130
64GB -- £150
16GB + 3G -- £130
32GB + 3G -- £150
64GB + 3G -- £170

iPad 2
16GB -- £200
32GB -- £210
64GB -- £250
16GB + 3G -- £210
32GB + 3G -- £250
64GB + 3G -- £300

Vodafone

Fast cash at poor rates with Vodafone, but as with Mazuma, you can claim more if you accept high street vouchers. Better than Mazuma's commitment to Argos, though.

iPad 1
16GB -- £110
32GB -- £140
64GB -- £155
16GB + 3G -- £130
32GB + 3G -- £160
64GB + 3G -- £175

iPad 2
16GB -- £200
32GB -- £225
64GB -- £265
16GB + 3G -- £220
32GB + 3G -- £250
64GB + 3G -- £290

Amazon

This is a little different -- it's not a straight trade-in for cash, but if you're brave enough, you can pull better prices by selling on to poorly-informed Amazon shoppers. You cold thing.

These are the current second-hand prices for black models, which seem to hold more value. They're higher than you'll actually receive because these will have been set before last week's iPad 3 news, but Amazon pulls enough footfall that you could undercut them and pull off a cheeky late sale. Be quick though:

iPad 1
16GB -- £198
32GB -- £230
64GB -- £270
16GB + 3G -- £215
32GB + 3G -- £255 (weirdly, higher than the 64GB)
64GB + 3G -- £240

iPad 2
16GB -- £300
32GB -- £320
64GB -- £380
16GB + 3G -- £345
32GB + 3G -- £395
64GB + 3G -- £450

If you see better rates out there in the online jungle, let us know in the comments and we'll try to add them to this list later.
