oh wow so exciting :S NOT
no offence but you could of chosen a better picture so that people give a toss lol
besides if i just go on these pics and i mean the smaller version as i wont be looked at the screen with my eye balls right close to it
i wont see a massive difference that im going to care
Agree – when I first looked at the smaller images, I had to squint real hard to see the difference. Yeah, there’s a difference when blown up, but not so much as to be groundbreaking. How about stills of an HD image or something? Something, nice, bright and actually real. I mean I like a donut as much as the next man, but there’s a time and a place….
Seriously, when they’re not blown up it looks almost identical. I thought this was going to be a sarcastic article when i saw it….hopefully im just having a sarcasm failure.
The difference has to be seen side by side on the devices to be fully appreciated.. Not sure this is the best example.
That’s great, but these images are zoomed in to the point where The original images aren’t.
If you scale both of the following images so they are displayed at the same physical size (chrome does it automatically) (since both the ipad 2 and 3 will likely have the same sized screen) I personally can’t tell the difference.

Exactly. Yawnfest.
I’m not trolling but are you sure those are not just the same image twice with different names?
The ‘iPad3′ image is a higher resolution
the images in this article exaggerate the difference. But your test doesn’t really show anything.
The images have to be zoomed to the same size to compare. But if you zoom out on the larger image then the pixel size of your screen is going to hide the difference. If you zoom in on the smaller image then most browsers perform an image interpolation to upsample the number of voxels and hide differences.
guess you going to need to see the real thing. But prob not going to make a real difference to user experience.
Still frustrates me that devices like these are getting such hi-res displays and yet pc monitors have barely improved over the last 5 years.
I do a lot of photo editing and have had my trusty Dell 3007WFP since 2007, and until something comes along with a higher resolution I see no reason to change it.
I guess selling 30-40 million of something makes a bit of a difference.
The difference really, is that while the resolution will be going up on the iPad, the screen size will stay near enough the same, but they’re just increasing the number of pixels used by each asset (for instance, an icon that would be 4×4 pixels, is now 8×8 or 16×16), so it’s near enough void.
With computer resolutions though, each item gets smaller and smaller relative to your screen size if you change the resolution. While 2560×1440 might look great on a big 30″ TV, it’ll be harder and harder to see things on a 21″ screen. In reality, 1920×1080 still looks great, even on huge screens, personally I don’t see much reason to bump up the reasolution that much, unless you can, yknow. (I mean I noticed on the back of my latest graphics card box that I can go to a resolution up to 4096 pixels wide)
Not sure if serious.

I think I just understood why Mr. Diaz has a job with Gawker. He is to Gawker what Jedward was to the X Factor, they all have the annoyance factor, they are so annoying that it starts to be funny at some point (for some people).
I’m excited purely because I own an iPhone 4S and an iPod Touch 2nd Gen. There is a huge difference and I look forward to it coming to the iPad.
Agreed, I remember many similar comments to those on this article that were around when the iPhone 4 was released. Yet going from a 4/4S now back to a 3G/S, the difference is remarkable.
I’m not sure if it will or won’t be groundbreaking, but it’ll certainly be an improvement, the full scale of which will only be evident in a real world comparison.
Man, this is gonna make everyone’s lives so much better.
I appreciate your sarcasm, have a like.
Others who are just rude just don’t impress, but sarcasm, well, we can all get behind that can’t we?
“Amazing”, “Groundbreaking”, “remarkable” etc.
Due to the constant whoring of these words by Apple and all concerned these words are loosing their meaning and impact. We need to create some new adjectives that Apple are forbidden to use.
“Cheap”?
har har har.
‘Spadoinkle’?
What if I’m viewing this on iPad 2?
Double the pixellation at half the price!
Something rather peculiar about looking at the quality of a screen image on a laptop screen which doesn’t come close to the DPI required to represent to quality of the screen. It’s like those Sky HD ad’s that show “stunning” image quality on a SD broadcast.
is this really a fair comparison when I’m viewing in on a screen with similar intensity to the an iPad 2. It’s like comparing a SD TV with 1080p on the SD TV’s screen – it just isn’t possible.
a·maze
[uh-meyz] Show IPA verb, a·mazed, a·maz·ing, noun
verb (used with object)
1. to overwhelm with surprise or sudden wonder; astonish greatly.
This is no way amazing, it’s a barely perceptible increase in resolution. It was to be expected in a new flagship device that the specs would receive a bump, so actually the opposite of amazing, it was expected and predictable.
Apple devices, whilst very nice, aren’t amazing or magical or any other OTT adjective. The sooner the media/press stop this ridiculous fawning over anything with a bitten fruit stamped on it the better.
