Asus has confirmed prices and launch dates for its newest Android tablet, with its Transformer Pad TF300T set to arrive in the UK “from early May” at the Currys/PC World chain.
It’s a bit of an odd phased launch, with the first units reserved for online orders, which will be followed by a later release of units in branches that should go on sale from the end of May. Then, at the end of June, the TF300T will be available at other retailers.
The price is £399 for the tablet itself plus its accompanying keyboard dock, which is a solid £100 cheaper than the asking price of the Transformer Prime. Not that we’re missing out on any features, with the TF300T featuring the same Tegra 3 chipset as the Prime, with Android 4.0 as its pre-loaded OS and a 10.1″ display.
Plus it’ll come in a few colours to match your man bag. The first unit to launch will be the “Royal Blue” model, with a white option coming at the end of June, followed by a red one in July. [Asus UK]

Is This the Asus Transformer Prime 2?
Irrespective of how good the thing is, shipping it exclusively through Currys/PC World online at the start is just stupid! That alone means I won’t be getting one at launch, or ever.
Don’t these companies do any research into the retailers they use for things like this? I know they have a recognisable name, but there are plenty of other online/highstreet retailers they could’ve used without the abysmal customer service record of DSG.
Such a shame but it looked like a decent tablet although a bit chubbier than the prime.
Like who DSG are the biggest high street retailer no other company has the same presence or even close to it in brick and mortar stores.
And the customer service at DSG is pretty variable you can get exceptionally good service for some products. Just depends and really there are not many companies that actually give good customer service.
In all honesty, I have never heard anyone describe DSG’s customer service as anything better than passable and certainly never good. To be honest a monkey in a catsuit would probably be able to offer me better product knowledge and customer service than anyone I have had the misfortune of speaking to at any DSG store, and would probably be significantly more entertaining.
Besides thinking about it, I wouldn’t really classify Currys/PC World as high-street. They are more retail park retailers and given that I would certainly place John Lewis well above them for customer service. But at least they didn’t go with Comet. I think that would probably be the only way they could go lower than DSG.
It depends on whether or not you are in touch with DSG product groups or the crappy service they outsourced everything to. But outsourcing is what everyone has done. If its a DSG product and you get through to the right people in DSG you can get really good service from them.
You pay extra for the service at John Lewis, the prices are still fair and you can get great deals but still they can be pretty expensive for some things.
If this is the cheaper one, I’m guessing there’s no chance of the Infinity being ~£450. Looks like I’ll be going for this one then.
Agree. I read infinity will be closer to the £600 price point.
Finally it lives up to it’s name. Now hopefully they will include docks with the other “transformers” too so that it isn’t just a tablet
