Elderly Man Tries to Drill Holes in World War II Artillery Shells, Explodes

Picking out just the right lamp can be taxing. There are color schemes to consider, general design, and Ikea is a festering hellpit. But word to the wise: if you decide to go the DIY route, don't do it by drilling holes in two WWII-era artillery shells.

That's the direction 78-year-old John Grimm III went when, after successfully drilling through the first shell, the second exploded. He was seriously wounded, with shrapnel in his arms, chest and groin, and rushed to a nearby medical centre by helicopter. We hope he's OK, and really hope he doesn't decide to make a sofa out of the nuclear warheads he's got in the basement. [NJ]
