Finally, after much rumour and speculation, a “new Samsung Galaxy” is officially coming. It’ll be showing its presumably pretty face on the 3rd of May in London at a “Samsung Mobile Unpacked” event — if that doesn’t scream Galaxy S III I don’t know what does.
The event invite is a bit vague, of course; there’s no mention of the Galaxy S III specifically, just a “come and meet the next Galaxy” strap line. There aren’t many other Galaxy models Samsung would use an evening event in London to launch, apart from a flagship device.
If it’s launching on May 3rd, we could expect it to hit the shops pretty soon after. It looks like those rumours of a late April launch weren’t all that far off after all. [TechRadar]

The iPad Mini Is Coming October 23rd
Is the Samsung Galaxy S III Coming to the UK as Soon as March 30th?
Samsung's Galaxy S III is a Quad-Core Model, Galaxy S 3D Coming in 2012
Finally.
So which of you is going to this?
Even though I just got a One X and got a Note before xmas I might look at getting a S3, but it has to be pretty epic spec wise
I’m not sure the galaxy s3 will beat the build quality of the HTC One X, the S2 wasn’t exactly premium build quality. The design and build quality of the phone are a very important factor when buying a phone.
The guts on the One X are also top notch, not sure a samsung cpu will be anymore powerful than the tegra 3, but then again I could be wrong as samsung did produce the A5x for apple.
A better battery would be a valid reason to buy over the one x, but this remains to be seen.
Samsung will probably focus its marketing effort on a new super amoled screen at a higher resolution. Now if the screen was to be organic like the new TV’s… ? Even I would que to buy one.
AMOLED is organic, I believe. on these small phone screens, OLED hasn’t necessarily meant better quality screens.
as for the processor, an improvement over Tegra 3 is only to be expected; it’s just a question of how much there is between these chipsets (and my money is on, hopefully, not very much).
Ok, maybe it has to be a bendy organic then before I que up…
I think most likely is an impossibly high DPI screen. They need a killer feature to take on the One X, but I think they will really struggle to surpass it on any other front than the screen as the Galaxy Note already trumps HTC’s efforts.
Woohoo! About time too
I’ve been waiting to see what this is like.
My original Desire contract has just finished and I could well be looking at getting the s3 or the One X.
So do i hold off getting my One X and see what the GSIII is like ! I need specs people, specs !!!
Based on the reviews the One X would probably not disappoint, but if I were you I would hold off a bit just to see. Just over two weeks to find out and it might be worth the wait.
Yeah I think I’ll hold fire just for a couple of weeks…
Been thinking about a new phone myself, and am in a similar situation. The extreme mystery over this SG3 is getting out of hand, though. Somehow, I strongly doubt that now that HTC & Sony have their latest devices in people’s hands, they’re waiting to redesign everything for the summer based on what Samsung are about to release. Whatever Samsung come out with is a problem they can only compete with at the end of the year now.
I’d hold off for a bit, at least until the announcement. Samsung might have something special up its sleeve, but if not, the One X’ll probably come down in price anyway. Win-win apart from the wait.
but I need my hot new gadgets while they’re hot and new !
Yeah it makes sense to wait and see what Samsung has up it’s sleeve.. The wait will kill me though
Maybe we should set up a support group or something.
Haha… I thought this was a support group!
Finally. Just need specs and pricing info so I can sell my iPhone 4 to get this.
HTC releasing the One X and One S just before the SG3 has probably lost them quite a bit of money. i’ve talked to loads of people who say they’re holding off on those phones to see what the new samsung is like, especially since those phones have such a legacy. same sort of idea with apple announcing the new iPad at the last possible moment, because between the announcement and release people might stop buying any iPads.
