Thanks to Dieter Rams, Braun’s classic travel alarm clock is still considered an icon of design. And while the company’s newest digital alarm clocks might not be as revered one day, they’re still a beautiful object to wake up too.
The £55 Braun BNC010 features a snazzy reverse LCD display that best suits the black model, but you can also get it in white or blue if that better matches your bedroom’s decor. The time is automatically set through a radio-controlled movement, and you can choose to wake to one of six preset radio stations with the alarm’s digital tuner.
But if $100 is too rich for your blood, Braun also released two smaller versions which lack a built-in radio. Including the £35 BNC009, and the even smaller travel-friendly £30 BNC008 which both feature the same automatic time setting capabilities. [Braun via Acquire]

Wake Up Every Morning With That Addictive Tetris Theme Stuck In Your Head
I don’t understand who buys travel alarm clocks. I find I barely have enough space to pack half my things, let alone extra clocks that (very expensively) replicate functions my phone can do much more simply and better.
I wouldn’t say it’s that good looking. Certainly not as good looking as what Dieter Rams made, but I can see the inspiration.
The amounts of times phones have not woken me up correctly is unbearable whether through a dead battery, automatic time adjustment going rampant or not working, or somehow silent mode affecting it. This has happened on both my iPhone and old android phone. With something so important, I prefer a “real” alarm which luckily my watch does loudly enough, eliminating the necessity of a device such as this which would otherwise be absolutely crucial.
I would imagine most people just use their phone nowadays, but I guess it looks nice. The first image is similar design to the iPhone 4(s), which I guess owes it’s design to Braun in the first place. Nice to see the inspiration going both ways, though.
similar in design*
Dangit, where’s that edit button?
It’s well known that Jonny Ive uses older Braun products as the inspiration for Apple designs. Google it a bit.
“which I guess owes it’s design to Braun in the first place.”
I know that Apple designs are inspired by Braun. However, I don’t know of any Braun products (other than this) that look like the iPhone 4 specifically, so I was just suggesting that Braun might be using some of Apples designs as inspiration too.
Sorry if you misunderstood my original comment. I’ll try to be more clear in future.

You missed a conversion here.
