So how does the book publishing industry battle back as they watch its market share being slowly nibbled away by e-readers and tablets? Well, by churning out an incredibly massive 6 by 4 1/2 foot world atlas with a price tag of £65,000, of course.
The Platinum Edition of Millennium House’s newest atlas—simply titled Earth—stands taller than the average person, and requires at least a couple of skilled pageturners to browse through its 128 pages. The book took over 100 cartographers, geographers, and photographers more than four years to create, and this special monstrous edition is limited to just 31 individually-numbered copies. There’s no word on whether an electronic version will be made available for the Kindle or iPad, and we’re assuming that’s because it would weigh in at a hefty 4TB download. Someone is going to be pissed when he discovers Google Maps.
Isn’t it about time we grew out of the “doing things in bigger sizes just to get the record as the worlds biggest” phase? Is there any useful application for this book that could not be done as well or better some other way?
At least 2 people eh?
Challenge Accepted!
This is so incredibly crap
Ah but big question is what map projection have they used? http://xkcd.com/977/
If they started on this four years ago, it’s already outdated.
