The Android Flipboard app, which was supposed to be arriving alongside Samsung’s new Galaxy S III, has leaked into the public domain, giving Android users a chance to experience the iOS news reading phenomenon ahead of schedule.
We’ve just given it a quick whirl and it’s working perfectly on an old Android 2.3 phone here, with all the fancy page transition scroll effects that won over the iOS users when it launched. You’re even able to select a region and have it serve some UK news stories too, so it’s a properly usable version.
To get it working, download the APK installation file from the XDA forum link there. [XDA via GSM Arena]

Flipboard Comes to the Rescue of Google+
Flipboard Is Now On All Android Tablets
Looks lovely on the Galaxy Nexus, I pity those poor iPhone users with their tiny screens, they really miss out when it comes to visual apps. I imagine this is gorgeous on the Galaxy Note.
I pity the poor Android users too, having not had it until now and have to take it off a demo unit and sideload it just to get it onto their phone
Here we go … Where is that Taf chap I think Im going to need him very soon …
oh on a side note have you noticed that if you type flipboard into google play its top hit suggestion is google currents? Sneaky
Well as you say, we’ve had to wait a little while for this. But we’ve got it now. Has your screen gotten any bigger recently?
No
I would like it at about 4 inches please. But I don’t want it too big. Fingers crossed …
Farrell can we have the less of the iPhone vs android malarkey.
It’s one of my favourite apps on the new iPad, if more people use it on Android and the app is equally as good then that can only be a good thing..
Sorry *Darrell
Oh come now Taf you know I’m only joking and besides, you have no doubt used this App on the iPad. I don’t doubt it looks beautiful on the big screen. I really do hope you guys get a bigger screen for the iPhone with the next refresh as you’ve been waiting so long for it.
You know what, Taf has decided he is no longer behind one platform only!
In the old days I had a snes, mega drive and a Neo Geo (albeit with not too many games, very expensive), these days it’s playstation 3 and Xbox 360, so now it’s about time I purchased my first Android gadget! I won’t stop buying Apple but will hopefully benefit from the best each has to offer!
So what are you getting? Maybe you should have a word with Kat. The adaptation of a long term Apple user to life on Android might make a good article.
Maybe we can even swapsie. I might get an iPhone!
What’s that I can hear? Is that Darrell shrieking?
Not me, I actually went into a shop and purchased an iPad2 for my other half, so while she did provide the money I have technically bought an iPad. She also has my full blessing to buy an iPhone when her current contract expires. People have the wrong idea about me, I’m perfectly happy for people to buy, own and use Apple products and it is not unthinkable that I might do so myself one day in the future.
Technically speaking I have done the same, bought a motorolla last year for the mrs, it’s Android, it even has a bigger screen than my iPhone and she seems to like it!
Let’s not get carried away… I will have one Android device (second phone, One x). Will still buy the new iPhone from Apple direct when its released.
The One X in white. It ticks most boxes I guess.

Pleased to see you’ve come to your senses, Taf
Err… I have changed my mind! Lol.
Seriously though the one x for £31 a month is a attractive offer (unlimited tethering, 2000 mins and 5000 texts) it’s far less than I pay now, the iPad I purchased has no 3G, taking a contract now will benefit my Apple device.
