Sales of IT gear in the UK grew by 14 per cent year-on-year, but this was achieved thanks to our amazing love of buying shiny new tablets. Take them out of the equation and tech sales would've fallen.
The data comes via analyst GfK, which reveals that over the course of April 2012, sales of tablets rose some 214 percent compared with April of 2011. One of the big victims was the poor old netbook sector, which fell away massively over the same period, with the dinky little machines and their sad, ugly bezels seeing a 64 per cent drop in sales.
In total, tablets accounted for 9.9 per cent of all retail IT sales in the UK last month, according to GfK, although it wisely avoided breaking down the numbers by hardware format and OS. Else it'd get ugly. [Reg Hardware]
