Having shown us all how awesome Ice Cream Sandwich is going to be on the Samsung Galaxy Note, it seems Samsung’s stealth launched the Android 4.0 update, which is currently rolling out to select devices across Europe. It’s time to check for updates, but be warned — having seen what a mess Samsung’s Galaxy S II ICS update was, you might be twiddling your thumbs for some time yet.
Hopefully it won’t be too long before the UK gets an official roll out; it seems our German cousins were first on the list, at least. The update is apparently available both OTA, weighing in at just 318MB, or via Samsung Kies. We’ll keep you posted if we hear any more about Notes in the UK getting it, but in the mean time, check for updates and let us know if your fave phablet gets some ICS love. [XDA]

Does it make that much of a difference over 2.3.5? I’m on a Desire HD with Sense 3.0.
Not sure Desire HD is on the update list. Would suggest you look at the HTC One to see what ICS with sense looks like. In operation terms it makes little difference, but is better, smoother faster.
Nothing here yet.
A friend of mine tried and it is not working for him yet. His phone is unlocked, I wonder why they don’t release for everyone at once.
Slow release allows them to deal with any problems the rollout causes without pissing everyone off. If there is some bug they haven’t found in testing they get a chance to correct it before everyone gets the update and starts complaining their phone doesn’t work. Also the update comes off of their servers, by limiting the number of users downloading they avoid bandwidth issues.
Huzzah, updated my Note OTA this morning, took about a half hour in total to download and install. Apart from a few graphical changes and an update to the S Memo sylus software I’ve not noticed any difference yet, will need to read up on ICS to find out what is new about it.
Actually, the biggest thing I noticed was how I’m going to have to spend a couple of hours setting up all seven screens again and no doubt routing amongst the settings to change what’s been returned to default.
