Microsoft Talks Dirty on Windows Phone Sexy App Guidelines

By Gary Cutlack on at

Microsoft's Windows team has put together a guide covering Windows Phone app branding and giving out developer design advice, in which it sets out the rules regarding getting your "sexy" content on WP. The above icons are allowed. Windows phone might be about to get a very unexpected adult makeover.

The guidelines concentrate for the most part on app icons and design, but there's an enjoyably straight-laced section on the difficulties of including slightly sex-themed content. Microsoft says: "What we do permit is the kind of content you occasionally see on prime-time TV or the pages of a magazine’s swimsuit issue."

So Bikini Babe apps are officially approved on Windows Phone. That'll help drive adoption.

Microsoft goes on to explain that "showing male or female models in silhouette" is one way of keeping sexy app icons inoffensive to the masses, therefore seeing the apps less likely to be pulled from the Marketplace. [Windows Team Blog via BBC]
