The Warthog might be Master Chief’s vehicle of choice in the Halo games, but once he sees the amphibious Scamander, we suspect he’ll be putting in an official requisition for a new ride.
The off-road vehicle was originally envisioned by Peter Wheeler, owner of sports car manufacturer TVR for 23 years, but he passed away before it came to fruition. So his wife and a team of engineers made sure the vehicle was eventually built, and Evo magazine had a chance to take it for a spin. Long story short, it looks like a heck of a lot of fun.
On land the Scamander can reach a top speed of 120mph, and its 300 horsepower V6 engine can push it from 0 to 60 in about eight seconds. Which is actually pretty impressive given this beast can tackle any terrain on Earth, and isn’t slowed down by even the shoreline. [YouTube via Autoblog]

OMG that background noise. God damn it. And dude’s a terrible host as well.
Harry’s brilliant. He’s done a lot for Evo fans, especially enjoy his Pagani videos. The background noise is explained in the video. This isn’t a production ready vehicle.
That doesn’t explain why they can’t just filter the noise out after the first few minutes. May be he’s a very good writer (Does he write for the magazine), but as a presenter he can’t hold a candle to Jeremy.
Metcalfe is an auto journalist and not an entertainer, like Jeremy. Crappy video aside, I think he did a good job presenting the vehicle. Metcalfe’s articles are always sober, his opinions very well thought through and his writing style makes you want to read the whole thing. And this guy is a far greater petrol head than Jeremy; he owns a Zonda, a Countach, a Murcielago (I think), a Capri and a few more that I don’t care to remember.
Anyway, I just finished reading the article he wrote about this vehicle in Evo magazine – the only magazine I’m a subscriber to and for many years – and it almost made me a sad puppy about TVR’s demise.
Clarkson’s persona on camera is quite different to his real one – watch the chat he has with Eric Bana and you’ll see he knows a lot more about cars than he normally lets on…
As for the atrocity in the video, if it hadn’t been the pet project of Peter Wheeler nobody would have given a monkey’s about it.
Alright. That’s what I thought as well. I will give his article a read when I have the time.
Harry Metcalfe is Evo’s managing director, editorial director and founder. His videos are pretty much a result of demand and supply. Evo readers enjoy them, so he’ll keep doing them.
