Your Porn Addiction Is Officially Bad For You

By Sam Gibbs on at

It seems, just like everything else, there really is such a thing as too much porn. According to researchers from the University of Sydney, watching too much smut can wreck your life; cause you to lose your job, and get you in trouble with the fuzz -- it's all the internet's fault.

The study found that habitual porn purveyors spent between 30 minutes and 3 hours a day consuming the visual carnage, with 85 per cent of the study being male. I'm actually shocked that any women fall into this category, but apparently some are addicted to porn just like blokes. The internet, unsurprisingly, gets the blame, as it's just too easy to find smut online.

One of the problems with porn addiction is the fact that cravers just can't get enough, apparently, and that they often seek out "more extreme and often illegal material" and have “severe social and relationship problems and [have] often lost their jobs or been in trouble with the law as a result of their addiction.”

There is help at hand though, Dr Sitharthan, one of the researchers from Syndey, reckons that porn is a learned behaviour and that, with the right help, you can be weaned off it. Maybe it's time for Porn Perves Anonymous or something. [University of Sydney via The Register]
