Apple Steals BBC's "The Stig" for WWDC Game Centre Promotion

By Gary Cutlack on at

One of the stranger sites at last night's info-packed Apple developer event was the above, which saw the fashionable tech giant wheeling out a clone of Top Gear's "The Stig" to help make people give a toss about its Game Centre service.

The presumably fake Stig took to the stage alongside Tim Cook to demonstrate some depressingly tedious game about pretend racing cars, although the Apple boss referred to this familiar-looking, anonymous, helmeted figure as "Racer OS X."

Given how precious the BBC is about companies who attempt to infer some sort of endorsement from its stars and properties, we wouldn't be surprised to see a formal complaint about this Stig-stealing stunt heading off to Apple from our beloved old media corporation. [Jalopnik]
