BBC's iPlayer Brings Rewinding and Restarting Shows to its Live Channel Feeds

The BBC's iPlayer desktop site now lets you perform some pretty useful timeshifting features when watching shows through the web site app, with all of the corporation's live channels featuring an updated interface with rewind and restart controls.

The big change is the overlay on the right-hand side of the image, which lets users restart the show that's currently being broadcast live, should you have joined today's Homes Under the Hammer a little too late in the day.

You're then able to scan and flip through the show as you wish, from the beginning to its current place in time on the live broadcast. The previous two hours of live content is also automatically cached in this way too, so you don't have to wait for something to pop up on the iPlayer site if you've just missed a thing.

The BBC says this Live Restart tool will start to appear on its mobile and TV apps later in the year. [BBC]
