The last remaining UK ISP court ordered to cut all lines to thepiratebay.se has set up its futile blockade. BT’s finally joined Sky, TalkTalk, O2, Orange, and Virgin in the BPI-championed action against The Pirate Bay, not that it makes any difference.
Now that every major UK-wide ISP has implemented its block, we’ll get to see if the BPI and big media will force our ISPs into that game of IP address whac-a-mole TPB’s been preparing for. It’ll be interesting to see if they have to go back to court each time for every IP address TPB spits out, and if so, how long they can keep that up. It can’t be cheap going to court time after time to get yet another court order.
Considering alternate IP addresses aren’t the only method of getting around the blockade — you’ve got VPNs, proxies, mirrors and an assortment of other tools — all this blocking business really does seem totally pointless.
Thanks Stewart!

My gf pointed out to me that the IP’s are in ascending order so every time a mole gets whacked we can just increment the address from the address bar instead of googling the next IP.
Wonder how much money has been wasted by the courts, ISP’s and MPAA etc in this fight just so TPB can side step the block? NewzBin all over again…
Maybe is the lowered the price for digital media and didnt p**s people of with DRM they wouldn’t need this fight as people would mind paying a fair price.
That’s been my argument for ages now. Give people the stuff they want, where and when they want it, at a price that’s fair and they can afford, and in a format that people can actually use, and you’ll stamp out the vast majority of piracy. Not all of it, obviously, but enough I reckon.
Geezus Christ, yes. x_x
I ran into this problem fairly recently, trying to catch up on the Marvel movies after seeing Avengers. LoveFilm is horrendously difficult to use, Netflix doesn’t have a good selection. Only other choice? iTunes, for nearly a tenner, and even then, I can’t play the films on any other software because of the damned DRM. Then, there was Audible and its annoying-as-heck DRM and the incredibly ugly GUI used for downloading and playing files. >.>;;
Just let me watch movies/listen to audiobooks, without the need to shell out a tenner or more every time, and without restricting where and when I can watch/listen.
I could see then why people turned to piracy. x_x
I had the same issue with Blu-Ray, i had a blu-ray drive in my old PC and wanted to watch The Dark Knight. Blu-Ray does not have a native player in windows (probably another Sony licensing issue) so i needed PowerDVD 11. After i bought it said i cant play it as my graphics card isnt HDCP and would need to spend another £80 for a replacement! I paid round £20 for a movie that i cant watch and would need over £250 extra to replace what i had just get it to play!
Its almost as if they make it easier to pirate.
So much ignorance in what has happened.
all they did was scatter the pirates to other places or work arounds.
sharing music increases the amount of people who are into the music artist, which increase amounts of people going to gigs, which, with many sold out gigs, leads to bugger venues, which equals more money.
Is plusnet part of the block team? I don’t see them on the list. I’m with V
STUPID COMPUTER!!!
As I was saying… I’m with virgin anyway so it doesn’t make a difference to my life.
