The Olympics Gets Its Own Facebook Portal But Athletes Still Can't Post

By Sam Gibbs on at

The London 2012 Olympics has its very own shiny new Facebook portal where you can catch up with what athletes are up to. The only problem is they can't post because of LOCOG's harsh social media restrictions. Just a news feed then?

Athletes are under incredibly tight guidelines on what they can and can't post on Facebook and Twitter, mainly over the sponsorship of the games. Certain broadcasters have paid quite a lot of money for the games to draw eyeballs onto themselves, not some Facebooking instant sporting celebrity.

Basically, anything that goes on at the Games, within the Olympic Park and other venues, is off limits, so that's pretty much everything interesting then. I don't know about you but I'm sick of reading my friends' "just got off the bog" posts, let alone some sprinter or heptathlete I don't know. Probably one to give a miss then. [BBC]
