Want a Cheap Mac? Grab an Apple Staffer

By Sam Gibbs on at

There's no getting around the fact that Macs are expensive. The Apple tax might not be such an issue these days, but they're premium machines that command a premium price. How about £300 off a new Mac? Just find an Apple employee.

Sticking to his word, Tim Cook's just announced that Apple staffers can now get just over £300 off a Mac and £160 off an iPad -- that's on top of the 25 per cent discount they get already. Certain models are excluded from the discount scheme including the Mac mini and the Retina Display MacBook Pro, which isn't listed just yet.

Still, that's an absolutely killer discount, so it's well worth asking any friends you know working for Apple whether the discount can extend your way. Either that or find a researcher at a university -- they get student prices and can claim the 20 per cent VAT back "for research use". [9to5Mac]
