Seems the rumours are getting stronger for a mini, 7.85-inch version of the iPad. The latest comes from “reliable Chinese sources” that say the fabled tablet will be built in Brazil in September, which means it really could be here in October.
Details on the rumoured tablet are frustratingly scarce. Apparently it’ll be super thin, thinner than the new Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire, which will make a nice change from the growing girth of its bigger, 9.7-inch brother.
Still, take this with a massive pinch of salt, but with Foxconn Brazil supposedly lined up and even Bloomberg getting in on the act, we really could see a new iPad mini at least by Christmas. [Macotakara via MacRumors]

Can anyone confirm for me if these rumours started before or after the rumours of the Nexus 7. I know that there has been “speculation” about a mini iPad for some time, but this latest round only seem to have started on or around the time of the N7′s announcement.
It’s probably a coincidence. If Apple *are* building this, it’s the Kindle Fire’s success that’s spurred them into it.
Or possibly even the Kindle touch.
I would not put it past Apple to focus on portability and battery life in a smaller tablet, and fit it with a Cortex A5, so it’s roughly as powerful as an iPad 1, since that still runs iOS perfectly well. That’d certainly help them be competitive on price, too.
I wonder what the battery life will be like on a such a thin product
It certainly won’t cost £159
Damn you to hell, profit making companies!
