Obviously, Apple isn’t pleased with the crazy-easy way to get free in-app purchases in iOS. It’s doing its best to shut down Russian hacker Alexy Borodin’s scheme, but right now, it’s just chasing shadows.
So far, Apple has issued a takedown request of the original server, had the YouTube instruction video pulled, and had PayPal remove the donation account Borodin had set up. But Borodin has moved his servers offshore, and improved the hack to not use Apple’s servers, as you can see in the flow chart above.
Here’s what Apple told The Loop:
“The security of the App Store is incredibly important to us and the developer community,” Apple representative Natalie Harrison said. “We take reports of fraudulent activity very seriously and we are investigating.”
You can follow the ongoing back and forth at the Borodin’s site, In-Appstore. He raised a little money to keep hosting running for a month, and he seems committed to keeping the whack-a-hack with Apple going as long as he can sustain it. [In-Appstore via TNW via MacRumors, The Loop]

Apple to Settle In-App Purchase Lawsuit With Free iTunes Credit
That In-App Purchase Hack Now Works For OS X Apps Too
here’s a question. Do the developers defrauded by this method have any legal claim against Borodin or Apple. Knowing Apple there is probably a get out written into the EULA that excuses them.
This is stealing. I actually support app developers more than anything else so I wont be doing this. Surely Apple/the developers will know you’re one of the people who purchased massive amounts of in app content during this period of time? Will there not be repercussions like the police tracking down everyone who took part in the London riots?
Can’t some kind of private key be setup temporarily (Till the time they figure out a better solution) to allow the developer’s servers to identify whether the app store receipt is genuine or not ?
Actually this isn’t freedom, this is theft.
I think it’s a bit disgusting that the header image reads ‘FREEDOM’.
That fact is that if you want something extra in an app, you can damn well pay for it. It cost someone time and money to make it. If you don’t like the rates they charge then don’t fucking use it.
App developers are some of the least financially viable in the market. You’re not stealing off Apple here, you’re stealing off people who are just trying to make a living, many of whom probably work from their bedrooms!
Not that it would be any better stealing off Apple.
To me Apple do a lot of conning people with their so called cool product`s.
I have a cool iMac (The Third One) It has as a faulty screen, and apple can`t fix it.
They have evan gave me a new one,YES that`s faulty too.
Apple in the past have stolen idea`s. I will just mention one The Beatles.
You can look into the cases in the high court in London.
I have evan watched a video in these cases to prove that Apple stole the idea`s
from the Beatles.
