One of the thing that makes Iron Man so darned appealing is that he’s just a guy. A brilliant and terrifically fit guy with giant piles of money, sure, but still! We could have that gig that if we were properly funded. In fact, here’s how much we’d need to make our Iron Man dreams a reality.
Warning: Do not read if you actually had any hope that you or anyone else on this planet could actually afford this ever.

New Iron Man 3 Trailer: So. Much. Badass.
How Much Would It Cost to Gift Wrap an Entire House?
If You Were Iron Man, This Is How You Would Suit Up
The US govt spent what, about $1 trillion in 2012 on the defence budget – they could easily afford a couple of Iron Man suits! If that’s not a deterrent, I don’t know what is!
Compared to most government defence programmes that sounds like a bargain!
Sorry, but those completely random estimates are ridiculous. While the materials of gold/titanium would cost a bit, they are just machined like someone with a hobby making fibreglass parts in their own garage. The ‘Nuclear’ chest piece and thrusters are non existent tech and therefore priceless.
TL;DR What a load of bollocks
$54,000,000 for the HUD, really?? It’s a glorified augmented reality app, you could probably achieve the same effect with some 3D virtual reality goggles (eg. a Virtual Boy) linked up to an augmented reality app (eg. Layar) – so total cost is maybe $10,000 (assuming it cost a load to make the technologies work together). The voice control of a computer also already exists (eg. Siri).
If you didn’t want to build one from scratch – the military even already have them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmet-mounted_display
And before someone says “its the computer behind the system which makes up the cost” – that’s already accounted for in the $10,000,000 cost for Jarvis.
p.s. The figure is doubly ridiculous given how little is quoted for entirely fantastical technologies, ie. the arc reactor and repulsion thrust systems…
Are you on crack?
You think Google goggles can tell from peoples temperature and the way they act if they ar ea friend of foe? Or they can measure every bit of scenery on the fly in milliseconds? Get real…
And comparing Siri to Jarvis, an actual AI computer that seems to learn and be able to respond like an actual huming having a conversation, compared to a computer with a preset answers and a fairly basic comparison system?
Maybe you should invent it and sell it to the US government then!
pfft. all you’d need is a modified Kinect and a transparent screen. we probably couldn’t engineer something quite as quick and smooth as in the movies, but we could definitely make something very comparable for much, MUCH less money.
Like i’ve said before.
If it was cheap we would all be doing it!
The whole thing is ludicrous. I love the extra 100,000 dollars on the HUD.
Why?
But for the price of 3 ironmen, you could only have one Batman. I’d rather have the ironman collection I think.
The Batman collection is a lot more realistic though, compared to the Iron Man one anyway!
