Somewhere, mankind lost its way. The latest proof being that instead of relying on good old buckets and other moulds for building sandcastles, kids are now given tools like this plastic sand and water funnel which makes them painstakingly build up a sand structure layer by layer.
It works not unlike the plastic 3D printers that produce items like neato iPhone cases, except that these 3D creations can be just as easily destroyed by an errant wave washing up on shore. On the other hand, this £9 Spilling Funnel is the perfect way to occupy a child’s attention for hours on end while you soak up the sun’s rays. [Haba via Notcot]

I dont know. I used to do this by hand by gathering handfulls of really wet sand and letting it drip through a small gap between my hands and probably would have loved this as it holds a lot more than I could have
This might come in handy, as I don’t build sandcastles… I build sand empires!
Forget the kids id be messing with this for hours. great idea
Surely the fun is learning to do it yourself, getting messy and excersizing your brain muscle. This completely takes away from that.
It’s a nice design but I’m not sure I’d encourage my (imaginary) kid to use one.
Ditto, At age ten I would build sand castles by digging into the sand until water appeared over the surface of the sand and then scoop up a water and sand mixture to drip on the fantastic towers of a castle. Try it yourself the next time you are on a beach its fabulous! The gadget is probably overkill unless you are doing it in a sandpit in your back garden as the sand is always wet near the sea.
