This has got to be the best use of a Raspberry Pi I’ve seen to date. It’s all very well turning it into a home media streamer or playing Quake 3 on it, but slapping the Pi into a tank is just inspired.
I reckon a tank can only be topped with a Raspberry Pi-powered quadrocopter for remote spying and water-bombing fun. Anyone else have any better, outlandish ideas or projects for the Raspberry Pi up their sleeves? [Hack-a-day via Gizmodo Australia]

Cool stuff. Although I’m disappointed that there appears to be a webcam on the tank yet we have no awesome first person footage.
Is that one of those tanks that can Shoot BB pellets? How cool would that be to have a webcam looking down the barrel and then being able to fire!
Have to say I’m loving your Offspring sig. It dictated my listening this morning!
Thank you sir. I may have recently purchased their latest album (which coincidentally has a re-recording of Dirty Magic on it) prompting the change of avatar.
It is! Unfortunately the webcam is too low-resolution (and streaming the video to the control phone/tablet too slow) to actually see it fire
The webcam wasn’t working at the time I shot that video, unfortunately. I now have it working and streaming though a web interface, so I’ll see if I can get it streaming to disk as well and make a more interesting video with on-board camera imagery too.
That would be all kinds of awesome. You need to do a hunting video.

Only if it’s had a cat strapped on.
If anyone’s interested, here’s the next video showing the web interface and streaming video working from the webcam.
