Seriously Embarrassing LOCOG Flag Cock-Up Confuses North Korea For Its Hated Neighbour South Korea

By Sam Gibbs on at

If transport chaos wasn't enough, LOCOG can't seem to tell the difference between North and South Korea either. The North Korean woman's football team walked off in outrage, as their team photos were put up on a massive screen next to the flag of their hated next-door neighbours. Ouch.

The match that was due to start at 7.45pm last night in Glasgow, was delayed by an hour while Olympic officials attempted to smooth over the mess they'd just caused, no doubt with some serious grovelling. Eventually the North Koreans returned, re-announced with the correct flag, and managed to beat Columbia 2-0 at Hampden Park, so at least they weren't put off their game.

Considering North and South Korea are technically still at war this is seriously embarrassing for the Olympic organisers; honestly, I'm amazed North Korea even came back to play after that. The whole world is starring at us with a microscope right now; our transport infrastructure is already buckling, and the Games haven't even truly kicked off yet. This is yet another egg-on-face to our nation, and something tells me there's yet more to come. Good going folks, let's try and go up from here, eh? [BBC]
