Yahoo’s got a brand new CEO, poached from Google. Marissa Mayer, Google’s 20th employee, has ditched big G for what’s probably the tech-business challenge of the decade, if you don’t count trying to turn RIM around, I guess. But do you really care, and does anyone actually still use anything Yahoo apart from Flickr?
I can’t say I do. I don’t even use the Yahoo account that’s forced upon you if you’ve got BT broadband. I’m not even a real Flickr user, so there’s nothing I want out of Yahoo. But do you, our dear readers, still use anything powered by Yahoo? And if so, do you think having an ex-Googler at the top is going to be enough to turn the ailing company around?

Yahoo Is Out To Burn Down the Web
I wish Marissa well in her new job but can’t help thinking she’s out of her freaking mind to leave Google for an inferior in every way company. Looking on the bright side, this means there’s a vacancy at Google. Time to polish my CV.
Even if it is to an inferior product, she has stepped up to a CEO position – it instantly increases her credibility in the eyes of other companies. Plus it is a win-win for here because if it fails, well it was failing anyway so she won’t be tarnished, if she turns it around, she is a genius.
I read she’s 6 months pregnant so they probably had a better maternity plan (or she didn’t want Google barcoding her baby, it’s in the contract people!).
So you’re saying that she only got the job because she slept with the board, is having one of their children, and blackmailed them into giving her the job……..
not saying that at all (guess this is how rumours start!)
I use the mail and calender, works fine so had no reason to change. Am I right in thinking that Yahoo’s still got more share in the US?
Yeah, compared to the UK anyway, still much bigger.
She’ll have friends at google that she can hire – if they are willing – that will probably do a lot to help the company.
She has seen how the big G has been run and how its successful and might actually help with her knowledge.
I know I still use yahoo answers… but only for the comical posts I can find on 9GAG.
I use the mail, but nothing else.
My Yahoo mail is a dumping ground for any group or club I reckon might spam the shit out of me.
My Hotmail account is my main one – hate me, I don’t care.
I don’t hate you for that but it looks like you may be a bit ‘ginger’ so that’s another issue
I use my hotmail account for exactly the same thing. Never had a Yahoo mail account other than the one BT forces on you.
I’ve had that Hotmail account for yonks, I have Gmail but never saw the need to go through the trouble of transferring my life over.
I’ve stopped using IE though.
Can I stay?
I guess so, just don’t tell me you’re still using Windows ME, OK?
Not yet.
Nope. I have a ymail account just to reserve my name =/
I still use yahoo mail as my primary mail. I have gmail but haven’t seen that it’s so superior that I’d want to go through the effort of switching.
Aye, it’s a bit of a faff getting everyone your new account deets — best way I’ve found is to get old accounts to forward to your new account and then have a signature at the bottom of every email saying you’ve changed. By replying to everything with your new account you can eventually get everyone to use the new one.
Yup, zackly the same situation for me ‘cept I have Hotmail.
It works so why mess with it?
Flickr and yahoo pipes. flickr i could move away from . yahoo pipes, I could probably do the same. There’s nothng with yahoo that i have to stick with.
I’ve had a Yahoo mail account for so long that I could use my real name when I registered. I am 122 years old.
