Anonymous Attacks Britain Over Assange Treatment

By Sam Gibbs on at

Looks like Julian Assange has a few friends in the Anonymous collective. OpFreeAssange is in full swing after yesterday's pleas from the Ecuadorian embassy, with attacks on the Justice Department, the Home Office, and the Department of Work and Pensions -- that well known persecutor of whistle blowers.

In traditional Anonymous fashion, the army of pingers has taken out various government websites with DDoS attacks; not exactly revolutionary, but a pain for those caught in the cross fire. Somehow I doubt the government will change its stance on Assange, despite these attacks and Galloway sticking his oar in. I wonder how long Ecuador will put up with Assange freeloading in its embassy; it's not like he can nip out and get some food in like a good guest should. [Twitter 1, 2 via The Register]
