Reuters reports that Google and Apple CEOs Tim Cook and Larry Page supposedly had a chat on the phone a few weeks ago their intellectual property disputes before they hit the courtroom. And apparently they’ve got a date to speak again. Can two tech titans resolve their problems without a lawsuit?
The report comes just a week after Apple decisively beat Samsung in court. According to Reuters, mobile products and specifically similarities between Android and iOS are at the center of negotiations. The companies didn’t comment for the story, but with billions of dollars on the line, it makes sense that Apple and Google might try to work it out. [Reuters]

The whole patent system needs looking at, patents should be on only be allowed on total new ideas that don’t stop innovation, I mean can you imagine if Volvo patented seat belts.
Apple said they created the ability to hold your figure on a telephone number within an message/email to call it, I mean how can this be protected this is common sense.
Not Volvo but still http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seat_belt. And if that was common sense why wasn’t it done before? Got to love comments like this
What is funny is that, in the wiki article you linked, Claghorn in the late 19th century secured a patent (in the US no less) for the seat belt despite it being invented in the early 18th century by Cayley (in the UK).
So, I guess it was done before
Great to see you quoting an article to disprove someone when in actual fact you haven’t read the persons comment or the quoted article properley. Clearly states the modern 3 point seat belt was developed by Volvo so wouldn’t be surprised if that design could have been patented
It was done before. In slightly different contexts.
Just because you are first to market doesn’t mean you can scoop up all the basic touch interactions and patent them.
All of these basic interactions where thought about long before Apple came along and patented everything.

While it needs looking it it’s not about to change any time soon, companies should really just learn how to play by the rules.
Seat belts is a really bad example, because within the car industry there’s sharing of important safety features.
So whoever invented seatbelts would have patented them, but would have shared the patent. Same with airbags.
I know there are words, probably very good words in a a meaningful order but Jesus Christ, the hair!
That’s all I could focus on too! He looks like he’s been involved in a spillage at a lube factory. Either that or he’s been on ‘Get Your Own Back’ with Dave Benson Phillips!
ha, i was really expecting some article about a new hair product for men!
“Related Stories: The F-16 gets upgraded to play nice with modern fighters.” Which OS does the F-16 have installed? Does it infringe any patents? Will it resort to missiles instead of lawyers?
probably old windows.
probably.
yes. Microsoft is probably building UAVs.
probably
