Everything Everywhere is making a renewed push into the contactless mobile payment world, signing a five-year deal with Mastercard to bring NFC payments and more to Orange and T-Mobile users.
The initial launch will see phone users on the conjoined networks able to pay for stuff with their NFC-enabled smartphones, with a later update bringing a wider selection of money transfer capabilities and online payments to the service.
Orange already has a form of NFC payment option out there in the shape of its Quick Tap system, although that had a pretty limited launch on only a small number of phones and hardly set the mobile world on fire. Maybe this big-brand exercise will convince more people that physical money's a thing of the past. [Telegraph]
