There’s almost no reason for any normal person to get excited about the beta release of open source WebOS, but for those of us who still can’t come to grips with the fact that Palm’s stunted mobile OS was an abject failure, there’s still a faint beacon of light to soothe the soul.
So what does this all mean? Well now it has been retooled for use on underpowered desktops! And that’s fine, but is anyone really going to bother with this code? Probably not, which is sad. It may be a taxidermied husk of its former self (which HP gutted with its bare hands), but whatever, at least it’s not on a printer—for now. [TechCrunch]

Maybe a good os for raspberry pi?
Just what I was thinking! I might get mine out now and get to work at loading it on.
You read my mind
webOS was not an abject failure, it was a damn fine operating system which just got eclipsed by larger companies offerings, my touchpad dual boots webos and android, i have an android phone and as i work with all sorts of various phones ive used iOS plenty too and i still prefer webOS. its multi tasking is second to none
ill admit the palm pre was borked but that was purely a battery life issue, even carrying 2 fully charged batteries i couldnt get through a full day
WebOS on the Touchpad was horrible to use – lagged everywhere and took an age to boot up IIRC.
bootup times arent really an issue for me, i rarely let mine run out of charge but its not that bad anyway. i still use my touchpad daily and i dont find it laggy at all and certainly not horrible to use, i have several other devices but i still prefer my touchpad and use it as my main reading device
