One developer working on a project for both Microsoft and Sony’s future home consoles has gone on the record as being impressed by what he’s seeing, claiming the next wave of consoles offer a “quantum leap” over what the Call of Duty boxes of today offer.
The quotes come from Oskari Hakkinen, a senior employee with developer Remedy, which was behind the relatively recent, relatively decent game Alan Wake. Speaking to the German edition of industry site Games Industry, Hakkinen said: “We are working as usual, first with a relatively small team on a next-generation project. One wonders … Can the new consoles really be that much better than the previous? Rest assured … it is a quantum leap.”
Which is particularly reassuring in the face of continuing tech spec leaks which had us worrying that the next-generation home consoles are being built around £69 graphics cards and might be a little underwhelming. [GI.biz via CVG]

Is he working in the PR department?
Just build a PC and always be ahead of them dumbed down noob machines.
…and then keep throwing money at it ad infinitum.
I only upgraded my videocard recently, My computer is 7 years old, meanwhile console peasants give microshit money hand over fist so they can play with their friends,
Stay deluded console peasants, I’m enjoying darksouls on pc now in full 3056×1200.
Only if you had the money
I have a dumbed down noob machine, and a PC. Guess which one is easier to take to work? Luckily since I own both I avoid the whole PC Gaming Master Race elitism bullshit that seems to infest the internet. Who cares what people play their games on as long as they’re having fun.
Also, I’ve never met a PC gamer who I actually wanted to hangout with.
But you’d want to hang out with me surely? D:
Of course I would! How dare you even entertain a hanging out session where we weren’t in close proximity to one another! Jesus man, get a damned grip of your mindlessness!

Quantum Leap’s such a weird phrase. I mean, a quantum’s basically the smallest measurable quantity of something, so a quantum leap would be the most pitiful advance possible…
There just hoping that the next consol, will be their last…
bravo sir! you are awarded one internet.
It refers to a change in quantum state which while occurring on a sub atomic level, is a pretty big change. X
Even just bringing them up to current basic standards is a quantum leap !
I’ll stick with my Gaming PC ta
Well, the XBOX and XBOX 360 were a huge leap over what was before, so it would only be natural for the next gen consoles to offer a similar jump in performance. Where the original XBOX lead the way was in offering 1080P output before Full HD was mainstream. Most flat panel TVs were still ‘HD Ready’ back then, IE, 720P.
Which makes one wonder if the next XBOX will offer 4K resolution? Now that would allow true photorealistic gaming on wall sized displays made possible with ultra-thin display technology, such as those already shown on a smaller scale by Samsung and LG.
the first few games will be good, then we just get different games using the same crappy engine for the next 5 years.
A few games will come out during that period that will show what the consoles can actually do, but most will be crap. I,m looking forward to what the consoles have to offer other than gaming. although I hope gaming is the main thing…
I liked Quantum Leap. Dr Sam Beckett was cool but his cigar chomping, invisible to most people friend, Al Calavicci, was awesome.
