Probably for the better, Nokia’s CEO has insisted that the company’s future lies no longer with Symbian (thank God), but rather with Windows Phone and nothing else. At all.
Stephen Elop told reporters in Oslo that “in today’s war [between] Android, Apple and Windows, we are very clear, we are fighting that with the Windows phone.” He continued to say that “I don’t think about rewinding the clock and thinking about competing elsewhere.” If Nokia is strictly Team Windows Phone, then we can say goodbye to any pipe dreams of a BlackBerry-licensed Nokia-phone. One can dream.
Elop has also insisted that Windows 8 phones will be on the horizon for the Finnish phone giants, saying that they’ll be “relatively near term”. Perhaps that means that the company will be showing off some handsets at Nokia World next month? Hopefully the company can also steal some of Apple’s thunder if they possibly can. Revenue Up, Profits Down, Windows Still Plugging Away as Usual for Microsoft
I think this needs a ‘No Shit Sherlock’ tag
Interested to see what the new windows 8 nokia phones will look like.
Phones up for renewal soon and i cant decide Iphone 5 or Windows Phone….
Once you’ve put the plane into the dive and shouted “Tora Tora Tora!” it’s a bit late to back down
What’s worrying is the impression that they won’t be first out of the gate with WP8. This may mean people hold off on buying a WP8 phone till they make one, which will damage the launch, or that people will get WP8 phones elsewhere, which will damage Nokia.
Also worth noting, another OEM not interested in licensing BB10 = Another nail in RIM’s coffin.
I doubt its anything to do with the OS they went with, just look at HTC…
Android isnt the saviour of Phone Manafacturers, its the saviour of Samsung!
I don’t think MS care if Nokias stock prices drop any lower, just means the company costs less when MS eventually has to buy it!
Actually HTC did really well out of Android, but they diluted their brand by making too many phones. Hopefully the One line will see them come back from this. Samsung obviously have a huge price and technology advantage over the other OEMs as it is a major manufacturer of all the main components, Of course they are spending a lot of money on Lawyers right now.
On your third point – agree completely.
Hasnt the HTC one X been outsold by the Lumia 900 in the states?
This was claimed by an annalist but I’ve never seen actual figures. I know the One X was delayed getting into the country by a patent related issue with Apple so it may have been true for a while.
AT&T released their sales figures for the last quarter I think showing the One X was 4th behind the iPhone, S3 and Lumia 900.
Didn’t AT&T have an exclusive on the Lumia 900?
Hey hey, this conversation is about the One X! Don’t try and change the subject..
My point is that when you have an exclusive on a phone you are more likely to push it on the unsuspecting public than something you dont have an exclusive on. I’m not trying to make excuses for the One X’s poor US sales by the way, nor take anything away from the Lumias success.
