On the heels of last week’s news suggesting that RIM was planning to license out its new operating system, BB10, Samsung has firmly denied any desires to become involved with RIM.
Reuters is reporting that Samsung has told it outright that it “has not considered acquiring Research In Motion or licensing the… new mobile operating system.”
Yesterday, shares of RIM rose 5 per cent when an analyst predicted that Samsung might be interested in licensing BB10 from RIM. They look set to drop just as quickly.
BB10, which is expected to launch early next year, is perhaps RIMs final shot—but plans to license the software out are ambitious. With Samsung, the biggest and most attractive player who may have considered the proposition, out of the running, it remains to be seen who will dare take the punt. [Reuters]

What RIM Needs to Prove with BlackBerry 10
RIM Is Dead, Long Live BlackBerry
So they’re definitely looking to buy them out then!
Yeah, why licence the product when you can buy it cheaper in a few months. Seriously who is going to licence this. Most OEM’s haven’t done too well out of licencing WP7 but are more likely to stick with Microsoft due to them having pots of money to push wp8. RIM’s best hope is that someone will snap them up for above their true market value to prevent anyone else getting in first, but Google can’t do it, because of the Motorola deal. So that basically leaves the OEM’s and I’m not sure HTC or LG can afford it right now. That just leaves Sony or the Chinese or breaking it down an selling the parts.
Big surprise, of course Samsung would support a rivals OS when it has the Android cash cow. But I don’t think RIM cares either, after BB Jam Tour London, I get a feeling they want to be in your tv, washing machine etc more, they want their os in devices we wouldn’t even think of, where there is little competition and would make BB products connect to our outside world like no other.
Why would they be? They have the best smartphone on the market!
