Samsung has released the specs of its new Exynos 5 Dual mobile chip, and it looks set to be an absolute powerhouse. An ARM-based 1.7 GHz mobile CPU, it seems set be a massive leap forward from the Exynos 4 Quad which currently powers the Galaxy S III .
So, what can you expect to see? For starters, the Exynos 5 is home to a quad-core Mali-T604 GPU which can support screen resolutions up to 2560×1600, as well as providing stereoscopic 3D and, oddly enough, DirectX 11 support. That last point could mean that it could be used with Windows 8, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Samsung has built in USB 3.0 and SATA III controllers, so your mobile might soon play nice with the ultra high speed connections of your computer, and also claims that it should have enough grunt to decode 1080p video at 60fps in a whole swathe of codecs. We did say it was a powerhouse.
Elsewhere, there’s support for the video streaming Wi-FI Display function and a whole bunch of other technical stuff we don’t need to worry about too much. Sadly there are no products that have been officially announced as containing the new chip—but rest assured that, when they land, they’ll be really quite impressive. Erm…have you been hibernating for the last 6 months or something? Ever heard of the Galaxy SIII? The best mobile phone money can buy?
Ah my bad, you were being facetious…
Pity it’s not exactly a looker
A matter of opinion, I’ve yet to meet anyone with an SIII who doesn’t think it’s a gorgeous phone.
Whereas being the best phone money cam buy is fact, rather than opinion.

agreed. I got the S3 a few weeks back and it really is stunning.
I’m guessing the battery life on these isn’t going to be great (?)
A press release they had a few days ago (can’t remember source sorry) said they were competing with Intel in that there new chips would be X% more powerful while being equally efficent.
Ah right, that’s good then! Wonder how they do it though; different architecture or something?

This article says most of the reasons why in lay-men speak.
TL:DR, it’s got an integrated eDP and a low power processing chip/circuitry, and handles graphic content more efficiently.
Could this be what’s powering the mythical 2560×1600 P10 tablet that we saw on a roadmap a couple of weeks ago?
Wowsers, I’m glad I’ve waited from purchasing any phones from the current generation out. By the time this beast will be out, my body will be ready!
The biggest news with these new Cortex A15 chips is OUT-OF-ORDER instructions just like a full fat x86 CPU ! This is the biggest news by far – finally a mobile chip with real multi-tasking. Shame “tech” blogs don’t even make an effort to explain this tech though….
