Our video team ran over to Apple’s UK livecast of last night’s keynote, and shot videos of the iPhone 5 vs. the iPhone 4S; a demo of that gorgeously silky 16:9 screen, and iOS 6 maps in action. Take a look below for some serious screen stroking.

It would be great to see some proper tests, in terms of raw power vs GalaxyS3.
I never understand the desire for these kind of comparisons.
It’s a phone, not an engine.
Yeah it’s a phone but when Apple say it’s fast I like to know how fast…and “A6” doesn’t quite cut it as proof.
Very well said.. Pointless test.
My car engine can do 160mph, but I don’t see any need to drive as fast…
Sorry, slightly off topic, but I haven’t seen answers to this anywhere else. We know that EE are getting the 4G model of the iPhone 5, but what about the other networks, are they getting a model that will work on their 3G and their 4G networks when they get them or will people have to get a new phone when 4G is available?
“One model, the GSM Model A1428, looks geared toward AT&T. It’s built to use LTE in bands 4 (AWS) and 17 (700b MHz)
GSM Model A1429 seems suited for key Asian carriers: It has bands at 2.1GHz at 850MHz, along with the widely used 1.8GHz band.”
Looks like they might have to wait for Apple to release another version
So it’s EE or wait till whenever then. Goodness, what a big bonus for them. I wonder if the head of Offcom is an iPhone user and pushed their application through on the hurry up just so he could get the 5 at launch.
Hi Jonesy. I posed the question a couple of times, but it got drowned out in the ether of the Android fanbois laughing and pointing fingers, and the Apple fanbois gushing.
It looks like they will be manufacturing three models.
Model A1428(GSM model) – LTE Band 4 (AWS) and 17 (700b MHz) – US/Canada (AT&t/BellRogers)
Model A1429
(CDMA model) – Verison/KDDI
1 (2100 MHz)
3 (1800 MHz)
5 (850 MHz)
13 (700c MHz)
25 (1900 MHz)
And finally Model A1429 (GSM)
1 (2100 MHz)
3 (1800 MHz) – EE
5 (850 MHz) – O2/Vodafone
My question was the 850Mhz band, which, to my understanding of various articles and wiki entry, is the same as GSM-800Mhz band … So, in effect should work with O2′s future 4g.
But for standard 3g/gsm its the same phone across the board. At least thats what i make of it all.
That’s exactly why I chose to post the question here in this empty (at the time of posting) article that would still draw in enough people who might actually be able to answer it.
Thanks for the comprehensive (though still inconclusive) response. I guess we shall have to wait till the carriers themselves speak up.
“The iPhone can also use LTE at 850MHz, but using a frequency pairing that fits well in Asia but won’t map to what’s being auctioned off next year as part of the UK’s 4G auction, so that’s never going to be usable in Blighty”

Thanks for the definitive word. So that’s it, EE will have a massive lead over everyone else, no wonder Vodafone threw all their toys out of the pram.
Funny thing is the same thing is going to happen in NZ. They are planning on eventually going to 700 MHz but the auction is delayed so they are refarming 1800MHz in the meantime..
That will be handy for you. By the time you get back to NZ the 920 you want will have been out a few months over here so will be cheaper to buy off contract, you can import one and use it on the network.
Yes, but I am an impatient man and will probably fork out full price before I go!
Rotating the map seemed to be overridden by the slight pinch/zoom gesture, seems like a bit of flaw that was skimmed over!
Video #2: Pretty sure that if the screen was 6:19 it wouldn’t be considered an improvement
You’re just holding it wrong
Sitting on it more like
After watching that video I can’t decide; Is it stale, old and limited or boring, safe and closed? Or maybe it is just stale and boring, old and safe, and limited and boring – that’s it, I’m decided.
I was thinking, have Apple shot themselves in the foot with all their patent legal action? Let me explain, this phone is boring in design style, it looks very much like any other iphone, same basic rectangle with rounded corners. Should they decide in the future to bring out a new design they will come unstuck as all other design are already out there and patented by others? All they can do is upgrade the inside and change what it’s made of.
And the legal action means every time an Apple article is written Samsung gets a nod, as a better featured phone that has sold more and has Google Maps, at a lower cost.
All I want to know is why so many f’in iphone/apple articles? Surely one or two not three pages worth. 10 times more than any other manufacturer/new release.
You must be new here..
Here’s a video that makes more sense out of a comparison:

Vids are great thanks Kat, but what about 1-1 scale images (would allow me to size up the iPhone 5 screen I guess), such images would be good to compare phones also..
Well the width is the same, so just take that then calculate the height using the 16:9 ratio.
