Black Mesa is Classic Half-Life Resurrected In Glorious Graphical Detail (and It's Nearly Here)

After eight years of work, fans are about to release an updated and expanded version of the classic Half-Life. Called Black Mesa, the renovated game has been put together using programming tools released by Valve, to give the original epic game a much deserved graphical kick in the pants.

With improved graphics, better physics and environmental effects, the team intend to beef up the engaging parts of the game and eliminate the, err, duller parts. Carlos Montero, leader of the 40-strong Black Mesa development team, said it decided to release a shorter version instead of making people wait longer for the whole thing, with more coming later.

Expect the free download to be made available on September 14th. In the meantime, eager Half-Life fanboys can drool over the countdown timer using the source link. [Black Mesa via BBC]
