9to5mac is reporting some last-minute leaks ahead of the Apple event later today. Chief amongst them are that the iPod’s new connection will be named “Lightning” — presumably to complement Thunderbolt — and a reaffirmation that the company will launch a new set of headphones to be known as “Earpods”.
There are no new speculative details about the new iPhone connection save for the name. But that in itself is quite fun: Thunderbolt and Lightning. Geddit?
As for the Earpods, a source apparently tells 9to5mac that they’ll sell for £20 by themselves. The site admits it doesn’t know for sure if they would come as standard with the iPhone but… why wouldn’t they? We’ll soon find out.
Elsewhere, 9to5mac also reports that the same source has told it that a new iPod shuffle will remain at its current 2GB capacity — which seems a little odd — but it should come in a range of new colours: pink, yellow, blue, green, purple, silver, ‘slate’ and red. So, umm, that’s OK, then?
Obviously there’s no way of knowing if these rumours are accurate or otherwise, but we’ll find out later today. [9to5mac]

Well Apple have had 2 years to come up with something amazing, seeing as they are deemed to be one of the most innovative tech companies in the world. A taller, anorexic iPhone 4S just won’t cut it. Will this be the blandest launch to date seeing as we know pretty much all there is to know about it due to some amazing leaks? Either way, I think the comments section on Giz will be going crazy tomorrow.
I really hope the leaks are wrong, looking unlikely but the look of this iPhone is a complete step backwards, maybe performance its better. To be honest I would still be happy with my 3GS if I didn’t have the option of upgrading to the 4S last year.
Agreed. I was hoping this was one elaborate hoax but I’m not holding out any hope. Plus the UI is now 5 years old and while it can be argued, why fix what isn’t broken, I think a refresh would do well.
