BlackBerry 10 is due up for release next year and now another piece of the puzzle has possibly leaked: there’s an apparent spy shot of the homescreen from CrackBerry and a video from BlackBerry Italia which briefly show more of the UI. And though it doesn’t show a ton, we’ve got our fingers crossed that RIM has bigger things in store because whatever that UI design is in the video doesn’t look great. BlackBerry's Most Important Phone Isn't Its Flagship
The First-Interesting Looking BlackBerry Isn't Even Made by RIM
This Isn't a Christmas Decoration
Very poignant music. It’s almost as if we’re all solemnly bowing our heads as a coffin moves slowly into an incinerator.
RIP.
RIP RIM (they must be run by Really Ignorant Men)
That pun wasn’t great, I’ll admit
Wait… Was that video showing us how to put the battery in after they’d put the battery in?
Got to assume it comes with the battery preinstalled.
Apple could do a similar video. It would need to show you how to use a screwdriver and hammer to first get the phone apart. Music would need to be a lot faster, probably something by Ramstein.
Hmm… Possibly. Either way, the music pretty much sums up RIM’s situation.
I can’t help but think that it’ll dead on arrival anyway…
it’ll be*
Jeez, do a quick trawl ’round Dribbble and you’ll find an abundance of UI designers. Knock that down to the few that understand decent UX principles and you’ve got to question why RIM still stick with such a gaudy, difficult to use UI.
Ok, you Canuck buggers, here’s a deal. Fly me out for a month and I’ll tell you everything you’re getting wrong. That’s still enough time to fix all the problems and ship a competitive product.
On the plus side, the Icons with their tags underneath are more of a rectangle than a square and it looks like nice sharp (not rounded) corners. So at least they will be allowed to sell it even if nobody wants to buy it!
Difficult to understand how you’ve judged the design of the UI based on a video of the phone playing a video, a video that features no UI in it apart from a multitasking screen that looked perfectly good.
1. This was a beta of the OS and it doesn’t look like this now.
2. You have some gall saying it doesn’t look great when it looks almost exactly as dated and rigid as iOS.
Try and be at least a little impartial?
‘Final version’ Kinda sums up anything RIM are going to do from now on doesn’t it?
Blackberry’s are going the same way as Shellsuits, Hoodies, Saabs and every other piece of unfashionable crap we have seen over the last ten years. The world moves forward, while the doomed simply tread water.
