The New York Times is reporting that Google is currently developing Google Maps for iOS and hopes to finish it by the end of the year. So iPhone owners running iOS 6, get used to the mixed up world of Apple Maps for the next couple of months.
Why the delay on making an iOS version of Google Maps? Well, like The Verge reported before, Google was caught off guard. The NY Times says:
One reason that it will take Google some time to build the iPhone app: it expected the app with Google's maps to remain on the iPhone for some time, based on the contract between the two companies, and was caught off guard when Apple decided to build a new application to replace the old one.
Google literally didn't know Apple was pulling Google Maps from iOS devices until Apple announced it publicly. Another reason for the delay is that Google wants to fold the Google Earth app, and its 3D images, into the upcoming iOS version of Google Maps so that it's on par with Apple Maps. Let me tell ya Googs, you don't need fancy 3D maps to be better than Apple Maps. Just get it in the App Store as quickly as you can and you would already be better. [NY Times]
