Samsung isn’t taking the iPhone 5 launch lying down, and it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that nobody else is taking anything lying down either, ever. Not long after Samsung released its hackle-raising iPhone-basher, the ad was being flipped on its head by ardent Apple knights in iPhone armour.
Like the ad they are based on, these parodies probably aren’t going to do much to change anyone’s mind. They do, however, hint at an answer to that age old question “Can’t we all just get along?” The answer being “No, because that phone you like is stupid.” [CNET, Business Insider]

I’m pleased to see that Samsung have created an ad that can be easily turned on its head.
It reminds me of a late oil company that allowed users to create captions on an image and publish in their site. Let’s just say the page was “down for maintenance” after a few hours.

And criticising S Beam, when the iPhone won’t even let me send a picture via bluetooth to another non-apple device. That’s just lame. I could keep going on and on, but its just not worth the hassle.
In the picture above it doesn’t take a genius to work out which phone is uglier. Its the iPhone easily. And the new one with the two tone back looks even worse. The best one was the 4/4S with the complete glass back, and which actually felt nice to hold.
And I love that whoever did the comparison one thinks Panorama is a feature, but the Galaxy’s camera is not even mentioned.
Bearing in mind you’re having a go at some people who had some spare time in ther hands. Vs a company who spent millions in this campaign.
As for telling these guys they missed something. That is rich considering what the original one was like.
Personally, I think they should have used their spare time to do something worth while (like commenting on a gadget blog).
I an not saying Samsung included everything, but leaving the entire camera off is fanboyism at its best / worst and its things like that which are really turning me off Apple more and more. I am the owner of an iPhone 4 and I think its a great device, but the more and more of this kind of crap I find just pulls me away form the brand to the point they have lost a customer.
I am all for good promotion, but this is becoming like an election now with just plain negative promotion of another brand. And yes I know Samsung did the advert first, but the ‘Appleites’ response is just plain daft.

The camera was left off because it’s the same camera as the 4S. Even Apple said in their announcement that it was the same camera, only slightly thinner so it would fit in the newer shell. Therefore it is not an exclusive feature.
Then why include 4G LTE when they both have the same?
My GNexus has a Panorama feature built-in, and it was available months ago. Does that mean I’m copying Apple?
The camera wasn’t actually included in the original advert by Samsung. I guess they didn’t think it was good/different enough to make the cut? But you can’t abuse apple fanboys for not putting something in that Samsung neglected.

I love how Apple fans have completely missed the point of the advert. Samsung are advertising all the features that are currently exclusive to the Galaxy S3 as compared to the features that are exclusive to the iPhone 5. The reason things like iMessage, Game center, Facetime, and Maps were left out of the iPhone 5 side is because they’re not exclusive to that model. The 4S has them all. My 3rd gen iPod Touch has iMessage and Game Center. This was the point, and Apple fans are too blind to see this.
They then completely misinterpreted the Samsung features. S-Beam for example. It will be useful for more than sharing documents and pictures. It’ll be used for payments, for accessing secure building etc. The Apple alternative, Airdrop, really only suits the sharing of documents and photos, which has been around for years in the form of Bluetooth sharing (which I believe still isn’t open on idevices, you still need to download a 3rd party app to share with a non-Apple device. I may be wrong)
And then there is the age old argument of looks. Apple have used fundamentally the same design for 3 years now, with minor changes. Yet the face of it, the bit you’ll be looking at most of the time, remains the exact same. Didn’t Conan O’Brien or Jimmy Kimmel take a 4S to the streets the day after the 5 was announced, told people it was a 5 and they couldn’t tell the difference? Samsung change their phones look with every iteration. You can see differences between the models, some may be more subtle than others but you can see them. You know they aren’t the same. What looks good is a matter of opinion. Personally I find the Apple design tired and boring. I prefer more curves to my devices.
TBH both parties can be as bad as each other. Samsung are definitely being a little bit petty with this ad, but as long as the ASA don’t find any issue with it then it’s all good.

Most of the comments i have read about this advert are just fanboy nonsense. It’s an advert from company X that compares it’s product from one by company Y. OF COURSE it’s going to mention things its product has that company Y’s does not, OF COURSE it isn’t going to mention things its product hasn’t got that company Y’s does, OF COURSE it’s going to talk up it’s product in every way possible BECAUSE IT’S A FUCKING ADVERT.
OF COURSE no one here who was thinking of getting the iPhone 5 will be swayed by this add, because it isn’t aimed at you. The fact that you are here means you have more interest in tech than 99%+ of the people in the world.
This advert, like almost all adverts is aimed at converting the softminded idiots out there who are persuaded that drinking a certain drink can make you fun to be with and attractive to women, or eating a certain breakfast cereal makes them fit and sporty despite the fact the rest of their diet is pizza and burgers. Apple makes adverts fr these people, Samsung makes Adverts for these people, EVERYBODY makes adverts for these people, because if you only ever made and sold products to people who really need and understand them you’d go broke.
Certain drinks do make me more attractive. Its just that the women need to be drinking it, not me.

Personally, I think the Smart Stay feature on the GS3 is hugely under-rated. It’s already got a huge battery, but you can set the power-saving features very agressively because the screen will only stay active for as long as you’re actually looking at it. That was a brilliant idea.
I love my S3, but Smart Stay is really really pointless, 75% of the time it doesn’t recognise my face and proceeds to turn the screen off, not handy at all!

Maybe so, I’m not the only one though, I’m not pulling some random facet out my ass, plenty of reviews have noted how bad the Smart Stay is, I can be looking directly at it, the SS icon comes up in the tray, and then the screen fades.

He’s got the SIII and he’s constantly posting shit about how crap apple are and how shit iTunes is and how stupid apple users are. I keep saying to him, your opinion is not valid, until you’ve used an iPhone or iPad or iPod, dont go slagging them off, most the issues he raises with iTunes are actually just down to DRM and he seems to take great pleasure in bashing Apple’s ethic. I’ve owned an iPhone before, however I will never own one again because as someone who cares about functionality, the iPhone just pissed me off. I just realised every time I wanted to do something, I couldn’t because Apple wont let you. I hate iTunes but you’re locked into it, you cannot just transfer things straight over, I dunno how iTunes is on Mac but on Windows it is the worst thing. I hate not being able to use Flash Player, for me it’s 100% needed because on the iPhone you have to use apps for most sites like Youtube and BBCiPlayer and they’re horrible and miss a lot of content.
I hate how i cannot use codecs that I want and they all have to be converted. I hate the small screen, even 4 inch is too small. I got the GS2 after my iPhone 4 and I loved the large screen but I still found it too small. I want a screen like the Note, its perfect, not too large but you can actually use it for like watching movies and stuff. I also cannot ever get used to a non OLED screen again because all I notice is the backlight on iPhones now. When I look at the GS2 I cannot tell the bezel from the screen, it’s amazing.
I have to have a removable battery because far too often I’m running out of battery from use and instead of not being able to use it until I get home, I just switch the battery out. The iPhone 4 under use ran out of battery just as fast as my GS2 so it is needed. I need a Micro SD slot so I can have endless storage local on my phone and so I can easily put data on another device without having to use software.
Personally as someone who just throws their phone in a bag with keys and stuff because I ride a motorbike, I can do that with my GS2 but the iPhone back and metal scratched to shit.
Up till now the iPhone only supported 2.4ghrz wifi which is annoying when you’re round peoples houses who don’t have a dual band router and are on 5hrz.
Good for you Scaramoosh, the best thing is to find the phone that best suits your needs, you tried the iPhone and it failed for your needs. To address the issues that you had, the flash issue is now a non issue for me now as lots of sites are using html5 and the only time it interferes is when the whole site is flash based which is more of a rarity these days. I use VLC to watch vids on my iPhone and iPad and that can handle any file, not sure if it’s still available mind. Transfering MP3s in iTunes is easy as Pie if they are non-DRM, you’re right on the screen size & type and the fragility of the iphones, it sucks! The battery life is poor but as i work with a Laptop and drive to work i always have an outlet to charge it up so i only notice if i’m on a night out taking lots of pics!
I’m in the throws of indecision myself as to whether i go for the iPhone 5 or take out a 12mnth contract with Vodaphone for the HTC One X to see what it’s like on Android because some of the issues you’ve raised bug me too!

I believe giving this to time and seeing which sells more over time is the answer to which is better. IPhone 5 got 2m orders in 24hrs, which sounds good but they have existing iPhone users that will always upgrade no matter what. Also we need to consider if we compare to last-gen or next gen.
Without getting into fanboyism… Seriously, theyre knocking better battery life, more ram, and a higher res screen. I do agree that screens are getting a little large though. Its just a desperation to defend their tribe. BTW This tribal mentality was the cleverest thing manufacturers ever did!
