During the iPhone 5 announcement, Apple mentioned the new phone would have its own new chip, the A6. Specific specs were sparse then, but AnandTech did some sleuthing and found the chip packs 1GB of RAM, and 33% more peak memory bandwidth than the iPhone 4S.
As it turns out, the alphanumeric code on the right side of the chip is actually a Samsung part number, and by digging through Samsung’s product guide, AnandTech was able to find that the A6 is a dual-channel LPDDR2 package with 32-bit channels, has two 512MB DRAM die for a total of 1GB, and a speed of 1066 MHz.
This means that the iPhone 5′s peak memory bandwidth is 8528 MB/s, or a 33% improvement over the iPhone 4S’s 6400 MB/s, which should help out of the iPhone 5′s faster GPU and higher resolution display. It’s nowhere near the new iPad’s 12800 MB/s, but then again, it doesn’t need to be. There are, of course, other factors at play when it comes to how the iPhone 5 will perform on the whole, but we’ll just have to wait and see about those. [AnandTech]

Latest Samsung Galaxy Note III Rumour Suggests 5.99" Display and 3GB of RAM
What 2GB of RAM Means for Your Phone
Boasts?
Yes, it is Samsung therefore the best piece of hardware in it
Come on, guys. It’s time to grow up now.
You are right. I am getting tired even of the jokes. So, I am not promising but probably there will be no more jokes, or trying to get my point across on this subject. F*ck Apple, Samsung and all the other companies involved.
Well I guess Samdung is Apples Bitch, Apple orders, Samdung comply…
Or, and this is a good one, no iPhone would have been anything without Samsung
When you are apple, money talks, they can buy where they like. Without Apple samdung would still be making flip phones, without Apple Samsung wealth would never have grown, without Apple touch wiz would never have existed, without apple you would be talking about and Samdung Omnia 6…
Without Apple the world will innovate better without getting their ass sued by Mr.Monopoly.
If Company X copies the hardware, software, packaging, accessories, marketing and stores of Company Y. Company Y should sue.
It’s one thing to be inspired, it is another to rip off every aspect.
Yes because as a company and throughout their history, Apple have never copied anyone…
Methinks without quite a few companies both past and present Apple would not be the behemoth it now is.
As nice as Apple’s products are it’s time people (including their fans, realise this strategy of suing everyone over patents will hurt the consumer in the long run and restrict future innovations
Apple haven’t copied every aspect of one particular company. Samsung have.
HP have based their latest designs on Mac products. That is fine. However Samsung couldn’t help themselves and got themselves into the firing line of Apple.
The lawsuits wont hurt the consumer, if anything they’ll force competitors to come up with their own ideas.
It really must be hard to breath up there.
Let’s see what Apple has invented.
The windowed UI, nope Xerox
The mouse, nope Xerox
The personal computer, nope Olivetti
The laptop, nope William Moggridge of ISEO
The mp3 player, nope Kane Kramer (though Apple did hire him as a consultant two decades later so they could use his patents as a weapon against Burst.com (a fight which they lost))
The touch screen phone, nope LG
Maybe I should have said copied rather than invented.
You clearly don’t understand what I’m saying. You list all of those things yet they were all from different people/companies.
Like I said, other companies have copied aspects of Apple. Samsung just went for everything.

How didn’t you get a goldstar yet? let me put a like here and see if it happens.
Ha! Congrats on the star. I think a avatar is in order now.
I’m sorry, but you are aware that Samsung makes a lot more than just phones? They make everything from offshore drilling platforms to single LEDs. Even if they stopped all phone related activities tomorrow they’d still be profitable, and their wealth would still grow. Simple fact is Apple need Samsung parts since the other suppliers can’t produce what Apple needs in terms of price, quality and quantity. And here’s the really funny part… Samsung would still survive without Apple placing orders.
So nobody else can produce a chips like Samsung? What about Qualcomm or NVidia or even Intel, new Generations of chips are always on the horizon, i’m sure Apple has the financial muscle to be able to get chips manufactured exclusively for them.. . Let’s not forget these other manufacturers supply chips for Android handsets which are generally cheaper than Apple products.
If Intel could produce what Apple wanted at a price they’d be willing to pay then they’d have the contract. Qualcomm and NVidia don’t own any fabrication plants so they’re out of the running. So why does Apple use Samsung? Price, quality, quantity.
There is always the fact that there isn’t a chololate fire guards chance in hell that Intel would produce ARM based chips.
I suggest you read the article linked below.
http://m.intomobile.com/2011/05/27/intel-may-make-arm-processors-depending-customer/?maneref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dintel%2Barm%2Bprocessor%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26prmd%3Dimvnsu%26ei%3DjHdWULqqIdLa0QWeloHADA%26start%3D10%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D598%26bih%3D336
All that says is that Intel were asked to design a chip around their architecture they would have a second thought but if they were asked to design one around any other architecture they would have to enter into long and protracted discussions which would no doubt include them saying ‘we’ll do it if you change your mind and use our architecture’. Everything else in that article is pure guess work (including the wrong guess that Intel may be involved in Apple’s A6 chip.
For the first would read wouldn’t. Flipping fingers not typing what the brain is asking them too.
And here is evidence to say intel chips incorporating ARM technology have already been produced..
http://www.eetimes.com/electronics-news/4374795/Intel-makes-Netronome-flow-processor-with-ARM-inside
Even Intel say that the Arm component of that chip is so minor as to be of little consequence. I would lay bets on future versions of it changing to the Atom once Intel improve it sufficiently.
Strange then that even though the patent battle has been going on for a long time Apple still used Samsung to manufacture their new super dopper chip.
Without Apple there would be no Taf. Sounds a fair deal to me…
Touchwiz used to run on Windows Mobile before the iPhone, you know touch screen phones not flip phones. But an Apple fans memory is only about 3 minutes long.
All due respect can you not use the term ‘gay’ as a negative
I’m pretty tired of seeing your gay comments every Apple article, just shut the fuck up already, you’re an iSheep. Get over it.
Same here. These type of comments will lead no where, they have no basis, and it seems that it’s sole purpose is to get people upset. Seems like someone took a stupid pill and decided to vomit all over Giz comment section.
On all other non Apple/Google/Samsung related articles, he does sound like a normal reasonable guy.
Although i appreciate your sentiment and would agree to a point, i would just like to point out that Kat has asked we refrain from cussing and cursing. We’re better than that.
I apologise. It’s just pretty annoying to see every single Apple and Samsung article.
Nice Homophobic comments there.. I “Wish” you would just shut up and leave ta !
Why do you assume the use of the word “gay” in that context was homosexually related? He could have meant ‘happy’.
Thus, your comment was homophobic by automatically assigning a negative connotation to it.
I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean “happy” !! The word gay was used as a negative, that is homophobic. There is no place for that on a tech site
Don’t defend the use of the word Gay as a negative. Homophobia is real and geeks are often the worst offenders.
Homophobia is regularly blown out of all proportion.
I once wrote on another site “Here’s the straight story” meaning the unvarnished story, no lies or ‘spin’…… my comment attracted loads of ‘homophobic’ comments claiming my statement implicitly suggested that non-straight was ‘wrong’ and thus I was saying that being gay was a bad choice!
I don’t care about peoples sexuality one way or the other but I do wonder at people who push agendas and ways of thinking.
Agreed. I fully embrace gay men, but not for too long in case they get a woody.
Such an intelligent response….well played sir!
His comments are sad, gay is not a negative term, please join us in the 21st century.
This, exactly this. I myself am Gay, and pretty damned proud to be. However, people trying to use it as a negative thing? Doesn’t really work, doesn’t affect me, my friends or anyone else.
And to be honest, I enjoy using it as a fun, tongue-in-cheek derogatory term
Thank you. My comment wasn’t towards gay people nor to offend them (sorry if you did). I’m not homophobic whatsoever I just used it as you described it as.
I find it difficult to take offense from random comments such as that, it’s only ever my close friends, if they meant it in a scathing way, that would offend me.
And the new iPhone has a geek bench rating of 1601 beating but the s3 and nexus 7!
I don’t know why there’s a but in there.
because he likes big buts and he cannot lie!!
Is this really a surprise?
Why does it need 33% more RAM than the 4S? I’ve got a 4S and I never find myself thinking that multitasking is slow or apps are crashing. Does the bigger screen really need all that or is it a moore’s law natural enhancement?
Lets face it, when it comes to making smartphones there’s always gonna be someone copying someone else to one degree or another, there’s only so much you can pack into a handset. Enough of the who did what to whom lads its getting really old!!!
Boasts ? My nearly two year old Android phone has 768MB of RAM.
