Google maybe the big name when it comes to Internet search, but Bing is certainly not giving up the fight. Now it’s the default search engine on all the new Kindle Fires, which will give it yet another foothold on its long, hard climb.
If default Bing search strikes you as just another thing that’s slightly unappealing about the new Kindles, don’t worry too much, unlike the ads, Bing search is something you can change if you want. Google and Yahoo! options are available. Nonetheless, this is going to bring a lot more people to Bing, whether they know it or not. The alternate search service may have a way to go, but it’s definitely gaining relevance, not losing it. [Ubergizmo via Ars Technica]

Amazon's Fire HD Dumps Google For Fling With Bing
Report: Amazon's Next Kindle Fire Will Have a Better Display
Can’t tell diff with search results on google or bing anymore so i use bing for the pretty pictures
You have totally failed to mention the reason for this. Amazon want to lower the price for the kindle and Microsoft obviously offered the biggest payout to be the default. Also, you can apparently switch off ads on the Kindle for a one off payment.
Its not really a reason, its how everyone decides.. Google paid firefox obscene amounts of money to be their search engine in 2011.
True, I wasn’t trying to imply that there was anything wrong in the choice, but at the same time I feel that it should be clear that amazon didn’t choose bing because it was the best for search.
Whenever I hear about ‘Bing’ I can’t help but think of FRIENDS.
Because Microsoft’s search engine is also crappy and annoying?
