Fancy yourself one of Samsung’s strange, yet possibly wonderful Android Jelly Bean-powered cameras? The Galaxy Camera will cost you almost the same as an entry-level DSLR, at 400-smackers, but at least it’ll be available next month, right? [Photography Blog via Cnet]

Raspberry PI Cranks Up Production, 4,000 PCs Created a Day and the Camera's Due October
Far too expensive for a point and shoot tbh. I’d expect no more than £150-£200 these days.
£200 for a brand new 16MP 21x optical zoom point and shoot? Tell him he’s dreaming..
But seriously, if you know where you can get a camera with comparable specs for sub £200 let me know!
I was talking about point and shoots in general. Who wants a point and shoot now? And if they do, who wants to fork out £400 for one??? Just buy a DSLR.
Anyway, who wants to pay £150 so they can share their photos on instagram? Urgh, no thanks. http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/11806892/art/samsung/wb850f-advanced-compact-d.html?srcid=11270&nopopup=1&gclid=CLnt67CUnLICFcUPfAodB14ALw
I do a fair bit of travel and I don’t want to lug a massive DSLR camera around, but I want something better than a £60 piece of crap point and shoot. That is why I wouldn’t but a DSLR
Also the Samsung WB850F was £329.99 when it was released 6mths ago
you must have massive pockets if you can stick a DSLR into them. The point of a small camera like this is its portability. £400 is mid range for the RRP of a brand new camera with these specs and almost a bargain compared to the best P&S at the moment, the Sony RX100 at £550.
This.
The RX100 isn’t really a direct competitor though. Its sensor is far larger and its focal length far shorter. It’s more like a shrunken mirrorless.
I’m loving the irony of this, a fortnight after the android fanboys made this video… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIRBxRlsYR0&
This is a great idea, however the sensor size is too small (especially at that price)…if they’d managed to squeeze in something a bit bigger then it would have been a no-brainer. So looks like I’ll need to save my pennies for a Sony RX-100 instead…and send the pics to my iPad for editing
Was holding off for the GN2 but if this is good then I’ll buy this, always wanted a good camera on my Phone and this is £100 cheaper than the GS3 and probably the GN2 as well.
BTW this camera can’t be used as an actual phone
Not out of the box, but it’ll be hacked around. If it has a SIM slot and a radio, it can make calls. :p
Then what the fuck is the point of it? I saw contacts and message apps on the screen, it runs android and they’re advertising it as a proper camera phone…..
You will be able to use Skype and Whatsapp but no phone natively
Then they just missed out on a sale :\ Could have actually been good but no Samsung fuck up again.
