Jony Ive and Tim Cook made a big hubbub about all the design that went into improving Apple’s famously terrible earbuds such that they might actually be usable. We might disagree about how much better they really are, but take a look inside the tiny EarPods, and you can help but squeeeeeee at their adorable guts. According to our friends at iFixit, the EarPods are so tightly assembled they had no choice but to resort to an X—Acto blade to rip them apart. [iFixit]

Apple EarPods Review: Better! (But Still Garbage)
Kindle Fire HD: The Pretty Little Tablet Spills Its Gorgeous Guts
Watch Gear Pantone Chart: Layers of Gorgeous Time-Keeping Guts
Ah, so that’s what disassembled sub-mediocrity looks like…….
There we go slinging that g word around again. This is not gorgeous in any way whatsoever -_-
Can an audiophile please explain to me why Apple keep making these shit earphones which are so unergonomic, that keep falling out your ear every 2 minutes. Surely in-ear headphones allow for a more snugger fit and stop outside audio affecting your listening experience? That and it stops those feaux hipsters from blaring there sh1tty funk music on the tube at full volume.
That’s really easy to answer, and I shall do so now.
If Apple made good ear phones that came free, Fanboys wouldn’t buy the £60 in ear versions.
What’s wrong with abit of Funk..
I can’t adequately explain it, but it’s something to do with saving money. Didn’t someone establish that the last gen or ear buds cost something stupid like $1 to Apple? I think Apple have changed them because the last gen were really so utterly terrible that it was starting to be a bit of a joke.
The word on wirecutter is that these ones are much better, but still not up to the standard that you would actually pay money for (I think they thought they were maybe worth a generous $40).
I think what it boils down to is that someone that doesn’t really care has tried to care and failed, whilst all the time remembering that the shit they were slopping out before never hurt their sales, so why take the risk of throwing good money at it.
Incidentally, I just bought a pair of Sennheiser’s MX680 for running. Holy shit they’re good for £40.
I meant PMX680i, the ones with the neckband and the mic so you can heavy breath at people while running (from the cops).
i would imagine they don’t give a s*** about how good they are and are more worried about the cost. they probably only supply headphones to support some the functions of the phone out the box and are not intended to deliver a quality audio experience. e.g. for hands-free voice calls they are adequate.
but sure, i wish apple would at least make headphones which didn’t leak so much, it would make public transport much more enjoyable.
what is a faux hipster, and do they really like funk or is that a joke?
And the hyping machine keeps turning! Nothing gorgeous about it…
Not as fast as the Trolling going on @ Giz uk of late
Which of the trolling agendas are you referring to?
Trolling Agenda the Android Trolls have? what do they do? Visit every Apple Article and bash Apple, they are devoted to spending time and energy to bash Apple, a company they don’ t like.
It’s surprising how many droids comment on articles relating to apple, even more so than apple fans, they even comment more on apple than they do on android articles. ..
Are you not a troll then? Really?
Most of my comments are on actual articles relating to Apple, I don’t have much time for Samsung articles, as for the droid crowd, they make up most of the comments on apple articles to which I respond.. .
Trolling me, Never!
“Bashing Apple” is not the same as trolling.
Saying genuine reasons why you think something is a bit crap is not the same as jumping into a thread and announcing “IPHONE 5, THE NEW KING OF SMARTPHONES. EVERYTHING ELSE IS SHIT”.
Now THAT’s trolling. If we did a poll on this site, for biggest troll, you would come out top. Maybe I’ll set up a poll to prove this…
Well I would rather not be part of this poll…
Ok mate you have 2 days to do it, no more. Or else I’ll do it myself
Listen Pal… If I wasn ‘t in here where would the noise come from?, Who would Darell argue with? some folk in here do actually see allot of sense in what Taf has to say.
This is afterall an article on Apple and that is why I, Taf would be here. Amd your purpose would be to bash Apple?
Taf, as hard to understand as it may sound, just because some people hate apple (or apple fans or just apple marketing strategies) it doesn’t mean they are “Droids” or any other kind of zombies…
Yes droids, def for sure. I saw one walking down the high street, he had a Green Robot tee shirt on, Samdung phone in hand, and walk straight with robotic like movements… Droid for sure!
Maye he comes in here with “Droid Rrage” also.
Hey Taf… If a guy walks straight with robotics movements it makes him a german, not an Android fan
A whole lot of slagging of these Earpods in comments at the mo, how many of you have actually tried them?
I’ve been listening to mine for 3 days and whilst not a patch of my over ear Denons, they are pretty bloody good for in-ears and far comfier than in-canal buds (for me). Haven’t tried? – Don’t knock.
I bought mine on Sunday, took ‘em back to the Apple Store Tuesday (Starting to sound a bit like a Craig David song).
I really wanted to keep them. They sounded great and the mic, buttons etc was great but they just didn’t stay in. Every 2 minutes I was wiggling them and pushing them to the point my ears started to hurt.
The bloke in the Apple Store was a bit surprised when I brought them back because apparently if you work in the Apple Store you have a completely different shaped ear than the general public and they fit fine! Ho hum.
If Apple could make their in-ear ones sound as good as their Earbuds I’d pay the £65 for them.
*were great
Sorry, is there anything in these that aren’t in the hundreds of competing headphones on the market, something that indicates that they aren’t exactly the same except for the Apple Logo on the box? I’m struggling to see anything special here, certainly nothing deserving of a article describing these standard parts as “gorgeous”.
Oh, and before Taf or anyone accuses me of Trolling, Fuck off, it is a legitimate question.
Keep yer hair or wig or whatever on Darrell…
I’m not going to comment on the quality of these headphones as I have never used them…
If you had actually read my post you would notice that I said nothing about the headphone’s quality. I was asking if there are any components that are different from those in hundreds of other headphones available for the same price, that justifies them getting an article on a tech blog and the description “gorgeous”.
I think “gorgeous” is a strong word and that gizmodo writers use it far too much. I think it’s a word that still holds meaning unlike words like “epic” which I myself abuse quite a lot.
The guts look the same as the old headphones to be honest.
Yes but as I said I would not be commenting on the headphones, as for you… And me saying you are trolling, I don’t think you need me to confirm what I think.
Trolls.
I can’t tell what you just wrote.
Darren Jones: I disagree. Yours is not a legitimate question, because we all know the answer is no. Yours is a rhetorical question.
Come again…
