There’s something unnerving about watching quadrocopters fly and dart around. It gets even creepier when the quadrocopters team up and become a giant swarm, morphing into different shapes like a living organism. So you can imagine what watching 49 quadrocopters littering the sky feels like. It’s like seeing aliens on Earth.
The awesome show was blasted on the sky of Linz, Austria. According to DVICE, The AscTec Hummingbird quadrocopters teamed up for a show called, “The Cloud in the Web” and was programmed by Ars Electronica Futurelab and Ascending Technologies GmbH. I would probably pee my pants if I saw these flying killers in the sky. [AEC.at via DVICE]

I would like to know if that video had been sped up or slowed down at all? Or is it all real time?
I can just imagine that one day in the future, they will use hundreds of these things to create floating ‘sky displays’, that would be an interesting sight.
I totally agree. And beauty of this is that if they had enough it could create 3D models that could be somewhat animated. Each copter would represent a pixel and with the attached light, it could display the desired colour. The only problem is that the animation would only be as fast as it takes to move the copters around.
Well, whilst I don’t see them creating full motion displays anytime soon, it would make for a pretty cool alert/advert system.
