Here’s a side-by-side-by-side of the Nokia Lumia 920‘s PureView camera up against the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S III. It’s pretty darn impressive.
This comparison (taken with a T3i) shows low-light shots taken at the same time by all three phones ina dark box that was set up at the Lumia event in New York today. The Galaxy S III representation isn’t quite fair since my screen brightness was turned down pretty far to save battery. But even just comparing the Lumia to the iPhone 4S demonstrates a really awesome showing from the Lumia. The Nokia reps couldn’t tell us what the ISO setting was for the Lumia’s camera, since the firmware and processing isn’t final, but man, it looks pretty amazing so far.

Unibody + dual core + Nokia + Windows 8 = fail.
Scaramoosh = fail.
hahahahahaha
In what way?
That is quite a camera.
Until I see live demonstrations with all camera’s on the same camera/screen settings, I’m ignoring all of these casual flirtations. Its pointless to compare otherwise.
from what i gather…. this is the gizmodo editors and somebody elses phone along with a 920… not pictures Nokia have posted.
Ooh, that does make the photo rather more interesting…

I don’t get how the Lumia has produced such a detailed shot without extra light… If that’s the actual difference between phones, I am nout short of amazed.
They just leave the shutter open for a lot longer time to capture more light. The image stabilisation on this thing must be pretty epic for it not to turn out a blurry mess!
agreed, although I think the speed of autofocus affects image quality a lot more than stabilisation in day-to-day use…
Or a larger aperture?
Are these shots taken with each phones own flash?
No flash at all
Blimey, are you sure?
I thought maybe part of the equation was an excellent flash on the Nokia.
That thing must must take X rays!
that was my first assumption, but there’s more than one way to get better low-light results. I’d be interested to see how they all perform on “auto” rather than the setup I’m assuming they have for this pick versus auto on the other two.
i like how they did not show it against their 808 lol because thats the best camera phone there is and there will likely be for the next 5 years
Forget about turning down your brightness to save battery, I don’t even think your screen is on!
Either that or the SIII’s camera couldn’t capture anything.
What is the point of showing the S3. He should have turned the brightness up just for the picture.
This is a really great feature, I always take my pictures in a box with hardly any light 😳
Other people might do… It’s called a night club…
In which there will be too much motion to take a photo without flash.
I would actually like to see a series of comparison images shot under the same conditions for this and other high-end phones. Doesn’t have to be fancy schmancy, just auto settings and a selection of images at different ISOs.
Send me the phones and I’ll do it for you
– you can have them back (eventually).
I don’t know… the whole faking video thing Nokia pulled is gonna piss a LOT of people off…
Doesnt piss me off? They never claimed that it was the original footage taking with the phone, all companies do it.
Do you think the Shots apple show on screen at presentations are taken with their camera from 4s? or Samsung and GS3?
Yes they misled people, but everyone does it…. Just like game adverts.
Yes, true, but the results from the camera itself speak for themselves:

i dont have a problem, i knew what pureview was, didnt assume it was the ammount of pixels. i cannot wait for this one.
OH and All adverts are fake – thats the point remember Iphone cutting down the transisions between loading screens.
Everyone does it Maccy Ds anyone. i’ll probably hack it for the tweaks app, and Iphone was tracking the mobiles without telling anyone. plus i’d be annoyed more about that than them using a proper film camera during there advert. the rant about the advert on this site was OVER THE TOP like using capitals to make a point.
oh ya baby i’m getting this
