The Chief Financial Officer at Asus, David Chang, has told the Wall Street Journal that Google is selling nearly one million Nexus 7 tablets every month — and that figure looks set to rise, too.
In an interview with the Journal, Chang explained:
“At the beginning, it was, for instance, 500K units a month, then maybe 600, 700K. This latest month, it was close to one million.”
While those figures still place the Nexus 7 behind the iPad in terms of sales — hell, Apple managed to shift 14 million of its tablets in the last quarter alone – there’s a clear upward trend there.
No doubt that’s in large part a result of affordability. Google’s Nexus 7 is attractively priced at £159 for the basic model, and it’s now joined by a larger stablemate which undercuts the iPad, too. While it seems unlikely that Google will overtake Apple any time soon, it’s clearly giving it a run for its money. [Wall Street Journal]

Went to PC world to grab a 16gb one yesterday but no stock
Every shop I’ve been to in order to look at one has been sold out.
Maybe they’d be selling more if there were more in stock, because I’m tempted but want to try one out first.
Every shop ran down it’s stock in anticipation of the changes to the N7 that were announced Monday. Just as you would have been paying the same for a 16gb as you would now for 32gb they would likewise have been paying higher wholesale prices.
PC World tried to sell me the display model yesterday, no way was I having that. Wish i’d have picked on up from them last Friday when they had stock at £169 each. Hoping new stock will come in at £159 to save the £10 delivery from buying direct from google.
i had that problem at the weekend (although i have used them before so i didnt need to see one, just to buy one) the main reason i think is that most places dropped the price to the price of the 8gb. i went to argos, pc world, richer sounds, currys and comet all out of stock, then went to HMV, they had no display unit but plenty in stock
More power to them. It’s about time products were released that beat Apple’s products in significant areas, and undercut their price by a large amount.
It’s possible – unlikely, but possible – that some Apple afficionados may actually realise that they’ve been swindled for the last several years, and jump ship.
Not really, at the time the first 2 iPad’s came out, no one could undercut them by price.
I think now these Nexus’s are coming out and they are on par and above the iPad in terms of pure spec, and undercutting by price, Apple should rethink their pricing before it’s too late.
I am already jumping ship for the very well priced Nexus 4. I was umming and ahhing at either an S3 or an iPhone 5, but I saw the N4 and then I saw the price.
The first two, yes – but that was only iPads, when everything else in the Apple camp was horrendously overpriced.
Additionally the only reason the iPad was selling at that price was because at the time there was nothing else out there that competed technology wise; other tech companies were late to the game. Now that they’ve caught up, it puts the iPad’s pricing throughout to shame.
Also I hope you enjoy the N4 – I was actually considering moving away from my S3 for the N4, but I’ve decided to hold off for now. It’s a superb handset.
Thank you, I hope I do also, I probably wouldn’t be to bothered in swapping an S3 for an N4 also, although I would be tempted to sell the S3 for say £350, and get the 16GB N4 for £279
making profit and still being able to have a stellar device.
But I’m selling my iPhone 4S for £280 (Already got buyer), and guess what, I’ve had the phone for pretty much a year and I’ve dropped it on many occasions on all types of surfaces, nothing but a little scratch every few drops, But 2 days ago for some reason I dropped if from around head height on to wooden floor, Screen first, SMASHED the whole front screen
, £45 to fix it, It’s like getting shot a week before retirement.

too true
I thought it was Steve Job’s spirit chucking my phone out of my hands because I’m getting a Nexus.
I find the notion of everyone using an Apple device as unattractive as everyone using an Android device, or even Windows.
The two Nexus 7s I’ve bought in the last two months are a fantastic addition to our household. Glad to see it’s a great success, which will only get greater.
Nexus 7 is a great tablet – might not be ‘Premium’ (whatever the hell that means nowadays) but it does the job and it does it well. Looking at selling my 16gb version for the new 32 + 3G enabled one which will make the product all the more sweeter.
why wouldnt they shift like mad? well spec’d, well built, completely open (as in no bootloader unlocking hassles) and very reasonably priced
