Facebook's Euro Boss Quits to Head-Up London's Tech City

By Gary Cutlack on at

The little cluster of start-ups and tech firms that pull themselves together under the name Tech City have a new boss today, with Facebook's European head Joanna Shields leaving the social network to join the start-up fund.

It's an enormous coup for the merry band of London-based businesses, as Shields has also previously worked for Google and played a part in managing to offload Bebo to AOL for an enormous $850m. She'll take up her government-funded post in January, with the aim being to somehow turn London's small-scale Shoreditch Twitter party scene into the next Silicon Valley. [BBC]
