If you’re champing at the bit to get hold of a Windows 8 computer, you can now buy an Acer or Gateway from HSN.com — just be warned that it’s loaded with crapware and likely a poor idea.
ZDNet has done some digging to discover that HSN.com has started selling — and shipping — five Windows 8 devices ahead of the official OS launch. They appear to be pretty bog-standard devices in terms of hardware, albeit designed to be used with Windows 8 — if only judging by the fact that the Windows key sports the new, fresher logo.
New and fresh, apparently, stop there though: the sleek new Windows user interface is, perhaps predictably, still spoiled by a stack of bloatware. Coming loaded with the likes of Acer Recovery Management, CyberLink PowerDVD and Norton Internet Security Suite, these devices probably don’t offer the streamlined Windows experience, or slinky hardware, you’re hoping for. You could just… uninstall those 3 apps?
its all to common thee days, but a bit of time uninstalling all the crap and all should be fine, i remember the days when norton was sleek and didnt hog your system, look what it has become
Wow, Norton was sleek once?! I didn’t even have internet back then!
You’ll need Cyberlink PowerDVD, though, since Win 8 doesn’t come with DVD playback any more.
Strange, My Win8 laptop (the one I’m posting this on) plays dvd’s just fine “out the box”.
That said it’s my company’s Enterprise version, doubt that’ll be a factor though.
I think the Pro version comes with DVD software by default.
Ahh well that might be it then.
Can’t say I paid much attention to the feature breakdown for Win8, in fact, until I started using this as my primary OS last week I wasn’t much interested, I am admittedly loving it now a week on.
You’ll need that DVD software, though, since Win 8 doesn’t come with DVD playback any more.
(second attempt at posting, deleting software name-check – why does the comments section just swallow them sometimes, does it think I’m an advertising bot? I’ve got a yellow star and everything!)
Damnit, Gizmodo, let me post a stupid comment on the stupid article!
Ah, thank you.
Now can I have a delete button, please?
“the sleek new Windows user interface is, perhaps predictably, still spoiled by it’s ugly as sin user interface”
Fixed that for you.
