The legendary GTA III sequel will soon be playable on your phone, with famed developer Rockstar announcing plans to launch a mobile version of enormous crime game GTA Vice City later this year.
The move is part of a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the game’s original release on PlayStation2, with Rockstar promising the mobile version of the code will arrive “later this fall,” alongside a collection of other unreleased GTA material like previously unseen artwork from the game and a limited run of newly minted merchandise.
The developer is also promising “several enhancements unique to the iOS and Android platforms” for the game itself, which probably just means on-screen control schemes to compensate for this new wave of machines’ lack of actual buttonery. [Rockstar]

GTA Vice City Out Now on Android and iOS
Android GTA Vice City Pulled Due to a "Technical Issue"
GTA Vice City Coming to Android and iOS on December 6th
Vice city is my favourite ever GTA.
I’m sure I’ll download it, but I’m not holding out much hope for an enjoyable gaming experience as I just couldn’t get used to 3 using touch controls especially on phones.
A Neo Geo X is calling out to me for my mobile gaming needs I think.
If your on android just buy a cheapy 3rd party wired controlled and use that. It works perfectly on GTA 3.
It’s truly incredible thinking that in 10 years we have managed to put a game that run on a box weighing a few kilos into a phone weighing 100g (including a screen and battery) and run that game at an even higher resolution with a higher frame rate.
You had experience with any of those 3rd party wired controllers? If so, which would you recommend?
Don’t really want to be that twat on the tube using his PS3 controller.
Yeh I guess a controller is a bit much on the tube but I generally just use it on long flights. The controller I use is a BigBen Interactive PS3 controller.

I’m sure you can find it cheaper than that though.
Excuse my naivety here, but how does that plug into your android device if it only has a micro-usb port? Would be interested in one of those as got GTA 3 (on the sale) but never really played it as the touch controls weren’t great!
You use an OTG (On-the-go) Cable. It’s basically a micro-USB cable with a female USB port on the other end. You can connect up controllers, mouses, keyboards, USB sticks, external hard drives and even all at once if you use a USB hub.
It’s pretty awesome to be honest.
Excellent, thanks! Will give it a shot.
No worries. Just to let you know, I think USB Sticks and external HDDs need a rooted android device but all the other peripherals work fine without.
Annoyingly, I recently smashed the screen in my new nexus 7, which also stops the touch screen from working. The nexus 7 is pretty much worthless when broken unfortunately but if you just stick a keyboard and mouse into it, you have a nice little computer with excellent battery life and a nice screen.
This news has made my day. Played GTA3 all the way through on android, loved it and my only regret was that it WASN’T Vice City! Can’t wait.
I dunno I remembered GTA 3 fondly and went back to play it and I ruined it for myself a bit. These games aren’t amazing like they used to be and personally I’m not going to bother ruining VC either.
Also the controls of a touch screen phone are poor for these types of games. They’ve now got to the stage where they work, but they don’t work well, using a controller is much better.
Finally GTA:SA is a much better game to play now. Download version 1.0 for the PC, you cannot buy it because they only sell patched versions to stop mods after hot coffee. Then download a mod called Multi Theft Auto, it’s just so amazing and it is probably one of the most popular online games on the PC. More people play that than they do BF3 lol…
Shame for Rockstar because that mod has been responsible for GTA:SA being one of the most pirated games ever. If Rockstar didn’t patch it, they’d still be selling GTA:SA like mad on PC like Dayz sold ArmA2.
