Google protects its data centres pretty fiercely, which you should be thankful for considering how much information it stores on your comings and goings across the internet. Now, thanks to this video and Street View, you can take a quick tour around one, and see what powers Google, which basically is the internet for a lot of us.
I know I shouldn't be shocked by just how many blinking lights there are in there, considering the colossal amounts of data Google processes, from YouTube all the way through to Drive, but cripes that's a lot of machines. And that's just one data centre in North Carolina.
Anyway, it's pretty fascinating to see the vast warehouses that house the Googles, and that it still backs up to tape. It's heartening to know also that it totally nukes discs before they're thrown out -- I don't know about you, but I don't want all my sordid emails ending up in someone's blackmail box. [Google]
